ESIC bans kzy for life over four CS2 maps in Portugal
Five NOMERCY players are barred from Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) events, and Oliver "kzy" Heck's ban has no end date, after decisions published on October 15, 2026. The case is four Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) maps played on March 28, 2026 at Radio Popular Roman Imperium Cup VII in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. ESIC says betting intelligence had already flagged one pre-match combination on a -9.5 round handicap across all four, and that each result lined up with it.
Four maps that all cleared a -9.5 handicap
NOMERCY won five rounds in the lot. HLTV reported on October 15, 2026 that the maps finished 13-0 to BetBoom, 13-3 to Sangal, 13-1 to BESTIA and 13-1 to Wildcard. The rounds NOMERCY took were 0, 3, 1 and 1.
A -9.5 round handicap means the opponent had to win by at least ten rounds. The margins were 13, 10, 12 and 12, so all four cleared it. Losing 13-0 can be a bad day. Doing it on a line already written down before the match, four times, is a different document.
Published on October 15, 2026, the ESIC decision calls that wager a structured, high-value combination. It names no stake, no book and no account.
Inside the evidence bundle ESIC describes
ESIC says the file was a broad evidence bundle: a Runestone Data Partner Report, full-match reviews, player-by-player analysis, roster notes, communications, financial material where it was produced, and the answers players gave. The Runestone report, the text says, supplied material evidence for both the investigation and the sanction.
Gameplay notes list repeated failures in trading a kill, grenade use, positioning and decisions. The same passage then draws a line. No isolated error, transaction or communication "was treated as determinative." On ESIC's own wording, a 13-0 does not carry the finding alone.
Why the caller drew the lifetime ban
kzy is the name with a record. HLTV's October 15 report traces him to Counter-Strike 1.6 and to MOUZ, under the old mousesports name, plus ALTERNATE aTTaX and EURONICS, and lists him at 36. Here he was the caller, the in-game leader (IGL), and ESIC places him in the map veto, where maps are banned and picked before play. The lifetime term rests on that role and on complete non-cooperation.
"His central leadership and calling role, involvement in veto decisions, repeated gameplay involvement and complete non-cooperation were material to the lifetime sanction," the decision states. ESIC found breaches of Articles 2.1.1, 2.1.2 and 2.1.4, tied to match manipulation, corrupt in-game incidents and facilitation of corrupt conduct, plus failures under Articles 4.2 and 4.3.
Article 6.5 bars playing, coaching, managing, analysis and media work at ESIC or member events. No end date is set. Article 6.7 still stands between a credited expiry and any return for the other four.
Shorter bans where players produced records
János "James8k" Fodor and Petar "perakokanje" Bešir drew five years, credited to April 23, 2031. HLTV says the Portugal maps are the only ones on their profiles, and that the term reflects the findings and a failure to cooperate. James8k is listed at 20, perakokanje at 30.
Palkovics "2xplayN" Tamás, listed by HLTV as playN, and Sreten "srtn1" Smiljanić drew three years, to April 23, 2029. HLTV says the decision weighed 2xplayN's answers, the records he produced, his engagement, his youth and his inexperience. He is 22. srtn1, listed at 27, gave answers described as incomplete, and that still counted. Youth is cited for him, not for James8k, who is younger and drew five years. The split follows who answered.
Article 6.4 credits the provisional suspension served from April 23, 2026. ESIC's April 23 statement called that step protective, not a finding. The final decisions are dated September 17, 2026, and the credit does not create an end date for kzy.
- March 28, 2026: four maps in Vila Nova de Gaia, five rounds won.
- April 23, 2026: provisional suspensions, described as protective rather than a finding.
- September 17, 2026: final decisions dated, replacing those suspensions.
- October 15, 2026: ESIC publishes sanctions from three years to life.
- April 23, 2029: credited end for 2xplayN and srtn1, if Article 6.7 is met.
- April 23, 2031: credited end for James8k and perakokanje. kzy has no such date.
A screenshot the decision does not adopt
Dexerto reported on October 15, 2026 that a screenshot showed an accumulator of about $57,000 on heavy NOMERCY defeats, with a potential payout above $4.5 million. The same report says the ESIC text names neither the bettor nor any payment to kzy. The sanction is built on role and cooperation, not on a stake the decision never adopts.
Portugal, where the LAN was played, sets the legal gambling age at 18, and a round handicap on a tier-two map is an adult product anyway. Esports crowds run younger than that line. CoinGenius has set out how 18 to 24-year-olds became the fastest-growing gambling segment, the cohort nearest the floor these markets are meant to keep.
