In an effort to bring Filipinos to the metaverse, Animoca Brands-produced The Sandboxed introduced Usbong Hiraya Game Jam, a platform where Filipino game developers and creators can showcase “their talents and ingenuity on a global stage.”

Usbong Hiraya Game Jam: The Reason

According to The Sandbox, Usbong Hiraya is produced to highlight the creativity and cultural identity of Filipinos, adding that Filipinos have brought these traits to the gaming community. 

Moreover, those who will join this game jam are promised to gain experience in creating “immersive virtual environments, future-proofing their skills and positioning themselves for exciting career opportunities in this emerging digital frontier.

Consequently, as a Filipino-centric platform, Usbong Hiraya is expected to form a community of game developers and user-generated content (UGC) creators that will promote web3 gaming in the country.  

“Push the boundaries of narrative gameplay to create something truly unique and impactful to the nation,” the team expressed. 

How to Participate

The game jam will be a team competition that will create a game. Each team consists of four members, whether developers or UGC creators.

Prizes

• 1st Place: 7,000 $SAND + 1×1 LAND
• 2nd Place: 4,000 $SAND + 1×1 LAND
• 3rd Place: 2,000 $SAND + 1×1 LAND
• 4th to 10th Place: 1,000 $SAND
• Consolation Prizes: The first 25 creators to self-publish their Game Jam experiences on their own LAND, regardless of ranking, will be rewarded with 400 $SAND. Creators must buy a LAND to publish their game within one month to be eligible for the reward.

$SAND is an ERC–20 token that is native to The Sandbox ecosystem. This means that it is the token that is used to buy and sell in-game NFTs. It is also used for staking and governance. 

Meanwhile, LAND is a virtual real estate in The Sandbox metaverse that is an ERC-721 token. It is used by players to publish digital experiences such as mini-games, tournaments, and even for storing in-game assets.

Judging Criteria

Voting is done primarily by The Sandbox staff in collaboration with the game’s co-organizers. Games are judged based on six categories, amounting to a maximum of 22 points per judge.
