The 2023 MLB season is warming up as pitchers and catchers have officially reported, and spring training draws closer. In this series of articles, TGH is going to be giving an early look at every team’s projected pitching rotations ahead of Opening Day on March 30. Here is the 2023 pitching rotation for the Seattle Mariners.

Mariners 2022 Season Review
The Seattle Mariners had an historic 2022 season. Despite finishing second in the AL West with a 90-72 record, the team managed to end the longest active major professional playoff drought in the “Big 4” North American sports (2001-2022). They would go on to lost to the Astros in the Divisonal Round.
2023 Projected Pitching Rotation
1. Luis Castillo
2022 stats: 8-6, 2.99 ERA, 150.1 IP, 50 ER
Castillo was one of a few former Cincinnati Reds that made their way to Seattle in recent years. He helped the Mariners reach their first postseason in two decades, throwing for the best ERA of his career split between the two cities.
2. Logan Gilbert
2022 stats: 13-6, 3.20 ERA, 185.2 IP, 66 ER
Gilbert had a true workhorse season in 2022, but still managed a great ERA. The run support was also in his favor, as he won double-digit games. If he repeats this performance in his third year, he’ll be close to ace status.
3. Robbie Ray
2022 stats: 12-12, 3.71 ERA, 189.0 IP, 78 ER
Ray had a down year from his Cy Young-winning campaign in 2021. His ERA rose from 2.84 to 3.71 in 2022, but he started the exact same amount of games. He can still eat up innings, though, pitching almost 190 last season.
4. George Kirby
2022 stats: 8-5, 3.39 ERA, 130.0 IP, 49 ER
Kirby’s rookie season was good enough to place him sixth in AL Rookie of the Year voting. He burst onto the scene as a starter right away, making all 25 of his appearances starts.
5. Marco Gonzales
2022 stats: 10-15, 4.13 ERA, 183.0 IP, 84 ER
Gonzales’ 4.13 ERA was the highest he’s posted since joining the Mariners full time in 2018. He also led the American League in losses, with 15. However, he also pitched the second-most innings of his career, behind his 203 innings pitched in 2019.
