Anito Legends

Anito Legends is a free-to-play multi-platform strategic auto-battler gsmr that incorporates some play-and-earn mechanics. The game inspired by Philippine folklore and mythology.
Players are tasked with assembling a team of Anitos, customizing their equipment, going on adventures, and battling other players while earning reward like in-game currency, weapons and armor, and crafting materials. The game utilizes $GINTO and $LARO tokens, which can be purchased for in-app purchases. Players can purchase and own non-fungible token (NFT) assets, such as Anitos, equipment, and more. However, the developers noted that using these tokens is not required to fully enjoy the game.
What to watch out for?
In late 2023, the developers shared two milestones for the game.
Anito Legends secured a listing on the Epic Games Store, which makes it more accessible to more gamers around the world. As of now, the game continues to generate anticipation on the global game store with the label “coming soon.”
Prior to this, the game also had a successful chain migration from Binance Smart Chain to Polygon. Masayato Games, the developer of Anito Legends, stated that the move was motivated by the platform’s increased partnership prospects, particularly in the Philippines, where the gaming culture is thriving.
Axie Infinity

Popularized in the Philippines, Axie Infinity is a play-to-earn game allowing players to collect, own, and breed digital pets known as axies. These creatures engage in strategic card battles against monsters or other players.
The game features various experiences like Epic Power Ups, Infinite Adventure, and The Arena.
Axie Infinity: Origins, introduced in 2022, a card-based strategy game with over 1.5 million global installs, lets players battle creatures, known as Axies, in Adventure mode or challenge others in the Arena. The game introduces a real-time combat system, offers free starter Axies, and incorporates vertical progression through Rune & Charm crafting. The introduction of Axie Experience Points (AXP) Utility in July enables players to earn points in the Origins arena and ascend their Axies to higher levels. To join, players can download the game client for their preferred platform.
In November, during the YGG Web3 Games Summit, the revival of Axie Infinity Classic was announced. It was the popular version of the game in the Philippines especially during the pandemic where the game was at its peak.
What to watch out for?
Sky Mavis introduced several updates, including the “Cursed Coliseum” and a new competitive mode, “The Grand Tournament,” which offers a chance to win a Mystic Axie. The game’s strategic depth was also enhanced with in-game curses and the integration of Axie Experience Points (AXP), which allows players to level up and compete for a prize pool.
Additionally, Axie Infinity Classic is slated to launch the Classic Premium Coliseum in this month, where players can purchase tickets with SLP and win tokens by clearing battle. The Coliseum offers SLP rewards based on the number of wins, with a maximum of 2,000 SLP.

Star Atlas, a science fiction strategy game, is built on the Solana blockchain. Set in a futuristic universe, the game allows players to explore, gather resources, engage in strategic gameplay, and participate in crafting and trading.

What to watch out for?
The game has expanded its offerings with the recent introduction of Star Atlas: Golden Era (SAGE) Labs, a Web3 space economy simulation game tailored for Solana’s network and play-to-earn (P2E) enthusiasts.
In this browser-based, open-world game, players can fully immerse themselves in Solana, participating in activities such as gathering, crafting, trading, and prospering within a real-time gameplay environment, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
Pixels

Pixels is a free-to-play open-world MMORPG web3 game that allows players to farm resources, cook food, trade goods, and own their own plots of Farm Land, which they can build upon. In addition, the game offers community building features such as the Guild system and Pixels Reputation.
Players can earn BERRY tokens by participating in gameplay, which will allow them to advance further and faster in the game, as they can buy more items and level up their skills faster.
Currently, the game is on beta release.
Recent data noted that it is the number one web3 game on Polygon by Unique Active Wallets, with over 1.5 million monthly on-chain transactions, 100k+ monthly active wallets, and 5,000 daily active users, the press release stated.
What to watch out for?
In September, the game migrated to Ronin which will allowed it to utilize the resources of the game developer. During the YGG W3GS, Jeffrey Zirlin, also known as Jihoz, the co-founder of Sky Mavis, expressed optimism over Pixels.
In 2024, the developers teased that they would integrate updates such as Play-to-airdrop 2.0, $PIXEL, a new gameplay on their Chapter 2, and more Pets Mints.
The Sandbox

The Sandbox is a 3D play-to-earn metaverse game on the Ethereum network, allowing players to explore virtual spaces, purchase land as NFTs, and build structures to earn income. It is similar to games like Minecraft and Roblox but on the metaverse.
It is a decentralized, community-driven ecosystem where creators share and monetize voxel assets and experiences using NFTs and the utility token SAND.
In a recent interview with Sandbox co-founder Sebastien Borget, he shared that the platform is consistent with its vision of empowering users to become creators. He highlighted their commitment to this vision through the use of improved tools, especially in no-code development, and the addition of features like multiplayer functionality for collaborative or competitive play.
Borget also mentioned the platform’s significant global growth, particularly in Asia, where there is a strong understanding of the metaverse and user-generated content. The expansion involves collaborating with brands, onboarding creators, and allowing them to remix content for their games. With over five million users and a focus on growth, Borget expressed the company’s commitment to fostering communities of creators in various countries, including the Philippines.

In December, The Sandbox announced the release of Game Maker 0.9, a significant update empowering creators and enhancing gameplay mechanics.
Key features include a visual scripting system for efficient game mechanics, new game modes, enhanced multiplayer features, NFT Sensor for utility in virtual assets, creation of Power-Ups, challenging survival scenarios, improved player movement in the metaverse, and smart equipment features.
The update also introduces templates for faster game development, on-the-fly asset replacement, grid snapping for cleaner design, and optimized performance with debugging features.
Coming out in 2024
Parallel

Parallel is a competitive sci-fi trading card game on the Solana blockchain, allowing players to build decks and engage in battles to determine the fate of humanity among five unique factions. Players use NFTs to represent factions, with the opportunity to buy, sell, and trade them on platforms like OpenSea.
The game, offering play-and-earn features, merges traditional trading card game mechanics with contemporary digital gaming innovations, set against a backdrop of interstellar travel and societal evolution.
Currently it is still in development, but the YGG community has received early access to Parallel. The game had a showcase last November during the YGG W3GS.
Fableborne

Fableborne is a free-to-play, multiplayer action role-playing game with strategic base-building elements. It is being developed by Pixion Games and built on the Avalanche blockchain.
The game is set in the Shatterlands, where players embark on a journey to explore the world, fortify their island, and raid other players’ bases for gold and glory. Fableborne is designed to be accessible and mobile-first, with an optimized mobile gaming experience.
ChampionsIO

Champions is a multiplayer combat game currently in pre-alpha playtesting.
The game is set in Massina, where players can experience the journey of a champion through the eyes of a young warrior. It offers a variety of game modes, including 1v1 combat, 3v3 combat, free-for-all, raid boss PvE, and Maestro Towers.
The game was also recently listed in Amazon’s gaming platform, Prime Gaming.
