One Player to Know on Each 2024 NCAA Tournament Team

The NCAA Tournament is nearing, and with it, a chance for many unknown players to get the spotlight. What players do fans need to know heading into the 2024 NCAA Tournament? Here is the one player to know on each 2024 NCAA Tournament team.

East Region

1. UConn Huskies- Tristen Newton, G

Newton was a key in UConn’s run through the NCAA Tournament last season. He averages 15.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game as a triple-double threat.

16. Stetson Hatters- Jalen Blackmon, G

Blackmon averages 21.5 points per game ranking 10th in the country. He is the fourth leading scorer to make the NCAA Tournament.

8. Florida Atlantic Owls- Johnell Davis, G

After scoring 13.8 points per game for the Owls last season en route to a Final Four, Davis has improved considerably. He now averages 18.2 points and will likely get some looks to play at the next level.

9. Northwestern Wildcats- Boo Buie, G

While having a very fun name to say helps his stock for this list, Buie is a game-changing player. He scores 19.2 points and dishes out 5.1 assists per game.

5. San Diego State Aztecs- Jaedon LeDee, F

The Aztecs play through LeDee, who averages 21.1 points per game and also hauls in 8.4 rebounds. He is one of two players on the roster averaging double figures.

12. Yale Bulldogs- Danny Wolf, F

Wolf was huge on the offensive glass for the Bulldogs in the Ivy League Tournament. He nearly averages a double-double at 14.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Wolf also is sporting an awesome facemask right now.

6. BYU Cougars- Jaxson Robinson, G

Robinson is the Cougars’ leading scorer at 13.8 points per game. He has scored 20 or more points in four games this season and will likely need to have another in the tournament for BYU to go on a long run.

11. Duquesne Dukes- Dae Dae Grant, G

At 93.6 percent from the free throw line, Grant is one of the best shooters from the charity stripe in the tournament. He also leads the Dukes in scoring.

3. Illinois Fighting Illini- Terrence Shannon Jr., G

Shannon is the second-leading scorer in the tournament and third in the country at 22.6 points per game. The former Texas Tech Red Raider has improved every year in college and can lead Illinois on a tournament run.

14. Morehead State Eagles- Riley Minix, G

At 20.8 points per game, Minix ranks 23rd in the country in scoring. He’ll have to light it up if they are to beat Illinois in the first round.

7. Washington State Cougars- Myles Rice, G

Rice missed last season with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, but has returned this season to lead Washington State to the big dance. He is second on the team in points and leads the team with 3.9 assists per game.

10. Drake Bulldogs- Tucker DeVries, G

DeVries ranks sixth in the country in scoring and can absolutely take over games. He has scored more than 30 points in four contests this year.

2. Iowa State Cyclones- Tamin Lipsey, G

Lipsey is second on the team in scoring, but leads the team with 4.9 assists per game. He ranks fourth in the country in steals per game as well with 2.8.

15. South Dakota Jackrabbits- Zeke Mayo, G

The Jackrabbits’ leading scorer averages 18.8 points per game. He has scored over 1,500 career points and has a season-high of 35 against North Dakota State.

West Region

1. North Carolina Tar Heels-R.J. Davis, G

At 21.4 points per game, Davis is the 11th leading scorer in the country. He is capable of taking over games like he did when he scored 42 against Miami earlier this season.

16. Howard Bison- Seth Towns, F

Towns is in his eighth season of college basketball. He started at Harvard, transferred to Ohio State and now to Howard. He scores 14.2 points per game and has NCAA Tournament experience.

16. Wagner Seahawks- Tahron Allen, G

Allen is the second-leading scorer for the Seahawks and shoots 47.3 percent from deep. He’ll have to make more than his average of 0.9 per game to help Wagner pull off an upset in the round of 64.

8. Mississippi State Bulldogs- Josh Hubbard, G

Tolu Smith is a good inside presence, but Hubbard has been incredible for the Bulldogs. He started the season on the bench, but now leads the team at 17.1 points per game. Hubbard is shorter, but can score with the best of them.

9. Michigan State Spartans- Tyson Walker, G

A deep tournament run will only be probable if Walker puts on a show. He averages 18.2 points per game and helped the Spartans make the Sweet Sixteen last season.

5. Saint Mary’s Gaels- Aidan Mahaney, G

Mahaney scores 13.9 points per game to lead the team. He is an x-factor in that he can score 20 on any given night, but he has plenty of games with nine or fewer points.

12. Grand Canyon Antelopes- Tyon Grant-Foster, G

The Antelopes have had a great season and Grant-Foster leads the way with 19.8 points per game. That ranks 37th in the country.

4. Alabama Crimson Tide- Mark Sears, G

Sears is in his second year at Alabama after transferring from Ohio. He runs the team well with 21.1 points and 4.1 assists per game.

13. Charleston Cougars- Rayne Smith, G

Smith Shoors 39.5 percent from 3-point range and leads the team at 12.8 points per game.

6. Clemson Tigers- PJ Hall, F

Hall has been a star for the Tigers at 18.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He can stretch the floor a little bit too, making him tough to matchup with.

11. New Mexico Lobos- Jaelen House, G

House is the son of Eddie House and he leads the team in points and steals. He ranks 12th in steals nationally.

3. Baylor Bears- Ja’Kobe Walter, G

Walter is one of the better draft prospects in this bracket. He leads the team with 14.2 points per game.

14. Colgate Raiders- Braeden Smith, G

Colgate’s star is Smith, who leads the team in scoring, assists and steals. He ranks 25th in the country in assists per game, so he is worth noting, even though others will know the other “Braden Smith” in the tournament.

7. Dayton Flyers- DaRon Holmes II, F

The Flyers run through Holmes, who has delivered for them. He averages 20.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game to lead the team in both categories.

10. Nevada Wolf Pack- Jarod Lucas, G

Lucas leads the team with 17.8 points per game and has hit some big shots including a half-court buzzer-beater against Colorado State a few weeks ago.

2. Arizona Wildcats- Caleb Love, G

With North Carolina two years ago, Love was key to their Final Four run. He is averaging 18.1 points per game and playing much more efficiently now.

15. Long Beach State Beach- Marcus Tsohonis, G

At 17.8 points per game, Tsohonis is the leading scorer for a team that fired their coach before the Big West Tournament.

South Region

1. Houston Cougars- Jamal Shead, G

Shead is one of the premier point guards in the country. He can score, set up teammates and defend well. He averages 13.1 points and 6.2 assists per game.

16 Longwood Lancers- Walyn Napper, G

Napper leads the team in points, assists and steals, making him a good matchup for Shead in the first round.

8. Nebraska Cornhuskers-Keisei Tominaga, G

It doesn’t take much to get Tominaga on fire. He averages 14.7 points per game and can really shoot it well.

9. Texas A&M Aggies- Wade Taylor IV, G

Taylor has been extremely streaky this season, but when he is on, he can make teams pay. He scores 18.9 points per game, while also leading the team in assists and steals.

5. Wisconsin Badgers- AJ Storr, G

Wisconsin had a lot of returning talent, but newcomer AJ Storr is leading the team in scoring at 16.9 points per game. He can get to the basket well.

12. James Madison- Terrence Edwards, G

Edwards gained fame after scoring 24 points against Michigan State in an early-season upset. He averages 17.8 points per game.

4. Duke Blue Devils- Kyle Filipowski, F

At 17.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, Filipowski is a star. He can stretch the floor too and will likely be a first round NBA Draft pick.

13. Vermont Catamounts- Shamir Bogues, G

Bogues is one of three double-digit scorers for the Catamounts, but also leads the team in rebounds and steals.

6. Texas Tech Red Raiders- Joe Toussaint, G

Toussaint has bounced around from Iowa to West Virginia to Texas Tech. He scores in double figures and leads the team with 4.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

11. NC State Wolfpack- DJ Burns, F

Burns will get noticed for his size, but he is a very skilled player. He averages 12.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2,8 assists per game. His post moves and passing make him an exciting player to watch.

3. Kentucky Wildcats- Rob Dillingham, G

Kentucky has a few players worth watching, but Dillingham has the potential to become a star in March. He can get hot quickly and hits ridiculous circus shots. He averages 15.4 points per game off the bench.

14. Oakland Grizzlies- Trey Townsend, F

It isn’t often a player can lead a team in points, rebounds, assists and steals, but Townsend does that for the Grizzlies.

7. Florida Gators- Walter Clayton, G

Clayton starred at Iona last season, who made the NCAA Tournament and now leads Florida in scoring at 17.1 points per game.

10. Boise State Broncos- Tyson Dagenhart, F

Dagenhart paces the team with 17.8 points per game. He has helped the Broncos make their third straight tournament in his third season at the school.

10. Colorado Buffaloes- Cody Williams, F

Williams is a great freshman and the brother of NBA star Jalen Williams. Cody has been injured, but he should be good to go for the NCAA Tournament. He puts up 12.1 points per game.

2. Marquette Golden Eagles- Tyler Kolek, G

After winning the Big East Player of the Year Award last season, Kolek has put up better numbers this year. He operates the pick and roll with efficiency, but he is currently nursing an oblique injury that should be monitored.

15. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers- Don McHenry, G

McHenry scores 15.2 points per game to lead the team, but also has the team high at 4.2 assists per game.

Midwest Region

1. Purdue Boilermakers- Zach Edey, C

Edey is the biggest name in college basketball and is on his way to win his second straight National Player of the Year. The 7-foot-4 mismatch leads the country in scoring at 24.4 points per game.

16. Montana State Bobcats- Robert Ford III, G

While leading the team in scoring is nice, what is more impressive is that Ford is third in the country in steals at 2.9 per game.

16. Grambling Tigers- Tre’Michael Moton, G

He scores in double-figures, but Moton leads the team in assists and steals, which is also notable.

8. Utah State Aggies- Great Osobor, F

Osobor has a fun name and has some game to go with it. He scores 18 points per game and pulls down 9.2 rebounds per game.

9. TCU Horned Frogs- Jameer Nelson Jr., G

Fans might be familiar with this name and that is because Jameer Nelson Sr. started for St. Joseph’s. Jr. is second in scoring, but also is tied for the team lead in assists and has the team-high in steals.

5. Gonzaga Bulldogs- Graham Ike, F

Ike started his career at Wyoming, but now leads the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding.

12. McNeese State Cowboys- Shahada Wells, G

His defense is great, as he ranks second in the country in steals per game. His offense is also impressive at 17.8 points and 4.8 assists per game.

4. Kansas Jayhawks- Kevin McCullar, G

McCullar has been dealing with a knee injury. Kansas will need him if they are going to go on a run, as he puts up 18.3 points per game.

13. Samford Bulldogs- Achor Achor, F

Samford plays with pace and shoots a lot of 3-point shots. Achor Achor leads that charge with 15.1 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounds and blocks.

6. South Carolina Gamecocks- Meechie Johnson, G

Johnson transferred from Ohio State and has a team-high 13.8 points per game. He has two straight games of under 10 points scored, so he needs to get things going quickly.

11. Oregon Ducks- Jermaine Couisnard, G

Oregon toles a bid winning the Pac-12 Tournament and Couisnard has been their best player this season. He leads the team in points, assists and steals.

3. Creighton Blue Jays- Baylor Scheierman, G

Creighton plays through Baylor Scheierman and he has paid off. He averages 18.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

14. Akron Zips- Enrique Freeman, F

Freeman is a double-double machine, as he averages 18.6 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. He also racks up 1.8 blocks per game.

7. Texas Longhorns- Max Abmas, G

Abmas is famous for his tournament run at Oral Roberts in 2021. Now he leads the Longhorns in scoring and assists.

10. Virginia Cavaliers- Reece Beekman, G

Virginia struggles to score and Beekman leads the team at 14.3 points per game. He can’t afford an off night in the NCAA Tournament.

10. Colorado State Rams- Isaiah Stevens, G

Stevens sets the table for himself and his teammates. He puts up 16.5 points and 7.0 assists per game. Stevens ranks sixth in the country in assists per game.

2. Tennessee Volunteers- Dalton Knecht, G

Tennessee has struggled to score in recent years, but adding Knecht has really helped. He’s tied for 14th in the country in scoring at 21.1 points per game. Knecht had a great stretch of games in the SEC and might be able to carry that over to the NCAA Tournament.

15. St. Peter’s Peacocks- Corey Washington, F

Washington leads St. Peter’s in scoring and rebounding as they hope to make another run as a no. 15 seed.
