LCO Split 2 2023: Vertex secure first win since debut in series tie with Kanga, Chiefs undefeated

Date:

Our teams are ready to hit the Summoners Rift, fighting for a top-two seed to compete in the PCS playoffs–their chance at Worlds in South Korea. With a brand new best-of-two format, which teams will succeed?

  • Vertex secure first win since debut against Kanga in tied series
  • Chiefs remain undefeated in Split 2, beating Mammoth
  • Games resume Tuesday, June 20 @ 6pm

Kanga and Vertex met at the bottom of the ladder last night in a series to gain precious points towards playoffs. In seventh and eighth place respectively prior to yesterday evening, both teams were just out of reach of that top six in order to qualify for the next stage.

A notable change to the winless Vertex was the addition of Danteh, their starting AD, finally joining the remainder of his team on the Rift—and he made sure everyone knew it. With the last piece of the Vertex puzzle set in place, the game one victory was incredibly dominant.

Despite their dominant success in game one, the next match flipped the narrative on its head as a carry performance from Meifan allowed Kanga to bounce back with ease, finishing the match on Kindred as 12/3/5.

The undefeated Chiefs and dark horse Mammoth were next in line yesterday evening. The series marked Chiefs toplaner BioPanther’s 150th match in the LCO, and his performance more than reflected his tenure. Although Mammoth picked some fights with great engages from Yursan and Chayon, the Chiefs were the ones to finish them.

The series played out somewhat methodically, with The Chiefs calculating every move towards their back-to-back victories, emerging undefeated once more.

Ground Zero and Bliss take the stage first thing this evening, looking to establish which team has aged better after joining the league side by side, followed by a matchup between the Dire Wolves and Pentanet to wrap things up tonight.

We’re covering everything LCO Split 2; streams, schedule, rosters, and more.

LCO Split 2 2023 Schedule & Results

There have been some major changes to the format of the LCO ahead of Split 2 this June. The round-robin stage will be played in best-of-twos as opposed to the former two separate best-of-one matches.

Points will be allocated depending on the results, with three awarded for a victorious flawless series, and one point to each team for a 1-1 outcome. Side selections will be submitted from both teams prior to the beginning of a series.

By the end of the round-robin, the top six teams will move into the next stage.

Rather than seeding into groups, the LCO has opted in favour of a double elimination playoffs bracket to give all teams a fighting chance.

The top two teams in our LCO playoffs will seed respectively for PCS playoffs, where they’ll be competing for a shot at Worlds in South Korea in October.
