LCO Split 2 2023: Pentanet unflinching against Vertex; Mammoth, DW neck and neck

Date:

Our teams are ready to hit the Summoners Rift, fighting for a top-two seed to compete in the PCS playoffs–their chance at Worlds in South Korea. With a brand new best-of-two format, which teams will succeed?

  • Pentanet achieve their first 2-0 against Vertex
  • Mammoth and Dire Wolves tie in series riddled with pauses
  • Games resume Monday, July 10 @ 6pm

The true colours of the Bo2 format are truly showing as the second Super Week commenced on Monday evening, with both of the series played out shifting the standings considerably.

Kanga and Mammoth opened up the evening with a fairly interesting series. Game one was fairly standard with Kanga standing their ground but Mammoth coming out on top. Then, game two was slated to follow a similar course. Well, until the teams started loading in and we saw the jungle Fighto on Jarvan Kanga had hidden away in their pouch.

The match itself was a bit of a bloodbath beyond the shenanigans; the game itself had a total of twenty seven kills, and Chayon’s 9/0/7 scoreline was enough to secure him MVP, the team now sitting in third place.

Throughout the split, Pentanet had tied all of their matches prior to Monday evening. Bliss’ success was largely facilitated by their support, Akia. Numerous misplays and overextension from Pentanet saw players from the team picked off, giving their opponents the edge. Although they attempted to put up a fight, any resistance was quickly halted with good use of the team’s CC and big damage.

The second match followed a bit of a different narrative, with Shernfire coming back strong in the first part of the game, but Bliss picked fights they had full control of in order to secure the victory–and their spot in playoffs.

The format keeps the standings quite close, with only The Chiefs and Team Bliss being secured for playoffs so far.

LCO Split 2 2023 Schedule & Results

There have been some major changes to the format of the LCO ahead of Split 2 this June. The round-robin stage will be played in best-of-twos as opposed to the former two separate best-of-one matches.

Points will be allocated depending on the results, with three awarded for a victorious flawless series, and one point to each team for a 1-1 outcome. Side selections will be submitted from both teams prior to the beginning of a series.

By the end of the round-robin, the top six teams will move into the next stage.

Rather than seeding into groups, the LCO has opted in favour of a double elimination playoffs bracket to give all teams a fighting chance.

The top two teams in our LCO playoffs will seed respectively for PCS playoffs, where they’ll be competing for a shot at Worlds in South Korea in October.
