During his one season at South Carolina, Jackson was a bright spot for the Gamecocks. Now he is in the 2023 NBA Draft.

As a five-star recruit out of Columbia, South Carolina, Jackson decided to stay at home to play for South Carolina. In his one season with the team, he averaged 15.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. His individual achievement did not translate into team success, as the Gamecocks won just 11 games during the season.

Following the season, Jackson declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-first-round pick.

GG Jackson Strengths

Jackson can score in a few different ways. He has the ability to drive to the basket well for a wing. Once he gets to the basket, he shows the ability to finish with a dunk or a layup. Finishing with either hand comes naturally to him and finishing over taller defenders is a skill he brings too. He can shoot from deep, both off the catch and off the dribble. Jackson can pull up from the mid-range as well.

For a bigger wing, Jackson has good ball-handling skills. As alluded to, Jackson can drive to the basket for himself. He can also create space for his jump shot. While he won’t be asked to be the lead ball handler for a team, Jackson can handle the ball and put pressure on a defense in halfcourt sets.

He has solid athleticism for the NBA level. Jackson has good first-step quickness, which helps him drive to the basket. He has good leaping ability and body control to help him finish at the basket. Jackson has solid speed to help him get up and down the floor in transition. His athleticism also helps him on the defensive end of the floor, as he is able to stay in front of players and slides his feet well. What helps make his athleticism even more effective on the defensive end of the floor is that he plays hard.

GG Jackson Weaknesses

Jackson needs to work on his efficiency on the offensive end of the floor. He doesn’t always have the best shot selection and needs to do a better job of passing out of bad shots. This may have been a product of circumstance, as he was South Carolina’s go-to player on a team that did not finish the season well. He’ll need to improve his shooting percentage from 3-point range, as he is a streaky shooter.

He is not a great passer and needs to take care of the ball better. Jackson averaged just 0.8 assists per game, but also turned the ball over 2.7 times per game. He needs to recognize when help defense is coming and keep the ball moving. Working on his passing will make him a better fit on an NBA team, especially when his teammates will be able to knock down open shots.

Jackson can get to the basket, but right now, teams can foul him and not have to worry about him knocking down both free throws all the time. He made just 67.7 percent of his free throws at South Carolina and will need to convert to make him a more efficient player, but also to stay on the court late in games.

Projected Draft Range: Mid-First-Round Pick
