The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the DJ James 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

DJ James Background

Position: Cornerback

School: Auburn

Size: 6-foot, 175 pounds

Class: Senior

2023 stats: 38 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 10 passes defended

James played at both Oregon and Auburn during his college career, impressing at both schools. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a three-star recruit in the class of 2019, James signed with Oregon out of Alabama. He played sparingly in his two seasons with the Ducks. In 2021 he had a breakout season with 46 tackles, two interceptions and four passes defended. His play helped Oregon win 10 games. Following the season, he transferred to Auburn. For the 2022 season, James had 37 total tackles, one interception and eight passes defended. Auburn won just five games. Last season, James had 38 total tackles, two interceptions and 10 passes defended. He helped Auburn to improve to six wins.

Following the 2023 season, James declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a third to fifth-round pick.

DJ James Strengths

James is a good athlete, who can match up with NFL receivers. He has good speed, which was shown at the NFL Combine with a 4.42 40-yard dash. James has good quickness and agility as well. He has loose hips which helps him change directions quickly.

He has been proficient in man coverage, as he has the ability to mirror receivers on their routes. James can run with receivers vertically as well, but his short area quickness and burst gives him the chance to stay with receivers throughout their routes.

His awareness helps make him solid in zone coverage. He shows good eye balance between the quarterback and wide receiver. He sees how routes are developing and is able to adjust his coverage to best defend the play.

DJ James Weaknesses

James is a small corner, measuring in at 6-foot and 175 pounds. His arm length is ok at 31-inches, but he also didn’t appear to play at 175 pounds at Auburn and was probably lighter. He’ll need to add to his frame to help match up with bigger receivers.

As mentioned, he can struggle against bigger receivers. Receivers who have big catch radii can high-point the football over him. Quarterbacks can take advantage of him in the red zone. He could be moved to the slot if he can’t find a way to match up with the bigger receivers on the outside.

With his size, he won’t offer much run support. James can struggle to get off his block and to get through traffic to pursue ball carriers. More strength will help him, but so too will a better motor and dedication to help stop the run.

Can struggle vs. size

Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
