Devils Acquire Tyler Toffoli From Flames

Date:

The New Jersey Devils acquired Tyler Toffoli from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Yegor Sharangovich and a 2023 3rd round pick on Tuesday.

The team’s Twitter account officially announced the details.

Calgary was shopping Toffoli and New Jersey was shopping Sharangovich. The two sides making a deal appears to make sense.

Toffoli, 31, scored 34 goals and assisted on 39 for 73 points in 82 games in the 2022-23 season. It was a career year in each category for him. Furthermore, he has 80 games of playoff experience under his belt, totaling 44 points. He’s a 2-time Stanley Cup finalist and one-time champion, which he won with the Los Angeles Kings in 2014.

This is a slam-dunk deal for the Devils. GM Tom Fitzgerald got rid of the signing rights to a player for a bona fide top-6 scorer. It’s also worth noting that the 3rd round pick going to Calgary was the pick the Devils got in the Damon Severson trade. What the Devils are getting in Tyler Toffoli is another talented top-6 winger who can score at a high level.

Toffoli is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2023-24 season, but he’s slated to be a major contributor for this cup-contending team.
