Top Non-Quarterback Transfers for the 2023 College Football Season

Date:

Every year, transfers flood the college football offseason news. This is especially true for quarterbacks, but there are other talented players who will be on new teams this season too. Here are the top non-quarterback transfers for the 2023 college football season.

Note: Only players who are eligible for the 2023 season will be listed.

Clark Barrington, OG/C, Baylor Bears

Over the last four seasons, Barrington started 40 games for BYU. He was named an All-American by several news outlets in 2021.

Barrington is joining his brother Campbell at Baylor. He will likely line up at center for the Bears who have four new starters on the line of scrimmage.

Jaheim Bell, TE, Florida State Seminoles

Bell was a jack of all trades for South Carolina over his first three seasons. He has 56 receptions for 757 yards and seven touchdowns in his career. Bell also has 301 rushing yards in his career.

Heading into the 2023 season, Bell will be joining Florida State. The Seminoles won 10 games last season and could use a player like Bell to open up the offense even more. He’ll line up as an in-line tight end, in the slot and as a running back.

Fentrell Cypress, CB, Florida State Seminoles

Cypress played the last two seasons at Virginia. He specifically had a great 2022 season, when he totaled 14 passes defended and 39 total tackles.

Florida State hit the transfer portal hard and Cypress can really help their secondary, which lost several members from last year’s team. If he can create an impact, the Seminoles could win the ACC and be looking at a CFP berth.

Zakhari Franklin, WR, Ole Miss Rebels

Franklin spent the first four seasons of his career with UTSA. He helped the Roadrunners be one of the best group of five teams over the last few years. He consistently improved his production every season and entered the transfer portal pretty late in the cycle.

Ole Miss has a great rushing attack for next season with the return of Quinshon Judkins. Franklin gives them an experienced receiver to utilize in hopes that they can improve on their 58th-ranked passing offense.

Travis Hunter, CB, Colorado Buffaloes

Travis Hunter was one of the best recruits in the country who was set to go to the FBS level. Deion Sanders was able to recruit him to Jackson State, where he has played both corner and wide receiver. When Sanders left Jackson State, Hunter followed him to Colorado.

Colorado has had a mass exodus of players and a lot of talented players coming in. They won one game last season, so it is hard to see them being very successful in year one, but Hunter will still be one of the best players in the country.

Dominic Lovett, WR, Georgia Bulldogs

Lovett spent two seasons at Missouri to start his collegiate career. He had 82 receptions for 1,019 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers. Following the season, he decided to join the reigning national champions.

Georgia is coming off back-to-back national championship seasons, but they have failed to retain star receivers. AD Mitchell is now a Texas Longhorn and Jermaine Burton left the school after the 2021 season for Alabama. Lovett can help fill the talent void for the Bulldogs as they look to win three-straight championships.

AD Mitchell, WR, Texas Longhorns

Mitchell won two national championships with Georgia. In his time with the Bulldogs, he had 38 receptions for 560 yards and seven touchdowns. Even though he produced in big games for Georgia he decided to leave for Texas.

At Texas, Mitchell joins a talented wide receiver room that includes Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington and Isaiah Neyor. Texas is a popular pick to win the Big 12 and if Quinn Ewers stays healthy and can utilize his receivers, they could win the conference on their way out the door.

Dorian Singer, WR, USC Trojans

Singer starred for Arizona over the last two seasons. He had 84 receptions for 1,406 yards and six touchdowns. After playing against USC, Singer decided to join them for the 2023 season.

With the Trojans, he will be joining Heisman-winning quarterback Caleb Williams. Their offense ranked third in scoring last season and if their defense can improve, maybe vastly, the Trojans could make the College Football Playoff with Singer’s help.

Omar Speights, LB, LSU Tigers

Speights played four seasons at Oregon State, where his play helped him stand out. He has over 80 total tackles in each of the last two seasons. For the 2023 season, Speights will be suiting up for the LSU Tigers as they try to defend their SEC West title.

The All-Pac-12 First Team selection will be lining up at inside linebacker for the Tigers. They only have four returning starters on defense, but plenty of transfers are coming in. His ability to track down ball carriers will be valuable for LSU.

Other Notable Transfers

Miles Battle, CB, Utah Utes- Battle started his career at Ole Miss, but will now try to help Utah defend their Pac-12 Championship.

Jordan Burch, EDGE, Oregon Ducks- Burch had 3.5 sacks for South Carolina in 2022, but now Oregon needs him to step up.

Jeremiah Byers, OT, Florida State Seminoles- Byers played at UTEP and impressed enough to end up at Florida State where he can really improve the offensive line play.

Dante Cephas, WR, Penn State Nittany Lions- Cephas was one of the best wide receivers in the MAC at Kent State over the last two seasons. He could be a key target for new starting quarterback Drew Allar.

Javion Cohen, OG/C, Miami Hurricanes- Cohen provides starting experience on the interior from his time at Alabama.

Justin Flowe, LB, Arizona Wildcats- Flowe was a highly-recruited player who chose to go to Oregon out of high school, but has had trouble staying healthy.

Denver Harris, CB, LSU Tigers- After being suspended a few times during his time at Texas A&M, Harris decided to transfer to LSU.

Davison Igbinosun, CB, Ohio State Buckeyes- Igbinosun transferred to Ohio State from Ole Miss and will try to help the Buckeyes limit big plays after impressing in the spring.

Trey Knox, TE, South Carolina Gamecocks- Knox is going from one SEC team to another as he leaves Arkansas to become a Gamecock. He will help the team replace Jaheim Bell.

Dasan McCullough, LB, Oklahoma Sooners- He was a Freshman All-American at Indiana and now will join Brent Venables’s defense.

Jabbar Muhammad, CB, Washington Huskies- Over the last two seasons for Oklahoma State, Muhammad had one interception and 12 interceptions. Now, he’ll look to improve Washington’s defense after they won 11 games last season.

De’Zhaun Stribling, WR, Oklahoma State Cowboys- Stribling got better from year to year two at Washington State and now could be the key to Oklahoma State opening up their offense.

Treshaun Ward, RB, Kansas State Wildcats- Ward was a part of a three-headed running back attack at Florida State. At Kansas State, he’ll take over for Deuce Vaughn, who went pro.

Theo Wease, WR, Missouri Tigers- Wease had over 1,000 receiving yards during his career with Oklahoma and now joins a talented Missouri wide receiver room.
