Swedish challenger Rocker introduces fingerprint sensor biometric payment card

Date:

Swedish challenger Rocker has teamed up with IDEX Biometrics and ID authenticator Idemia to launch a biometric payment card – the first of its kind in Sweden.

Rocker launches Sweden’s first biometric card

The payment card utilises IDEX’s fingerprint sensor to authenticate a transaction instead of a personal identification number (PIN).

Rocker Touch is part of the challenger’s strategy “to offer smart and secure payment solutions across platforms, whether you wish to pay with your mobile, a card or with a transfer”, says Rocker’s vice president of save and spend Andreas Norberg.

“As a challenger bank, we are constantly testing new technology to develop smarter financial services”, Norberg says, and the “premium product” will be offered as a new service within its suite of retail financial services.

The biometric payment card is certified by both Visa and Mastercard and will work with any payment terminal.

The cards authorise payments via a fingerprint sensor embedded into the card. Biometric data is securely stored in the chip and never leaves the card.

Thanks to the enhanced security, there is no upper limit on the contactless transaction.

Stockholm-based Rocker provides loan and savings products, peer-to-peer (P2P) payments services, and Rocker Pay, its buy now, pay later (BNPL) offering.
