SBQuantum & Silicon Microgravity Partner to Accelerate Mining Exploration Using Quantum Sensing, With Funding from UK & Canada

SBQuantum Logo

SBQuantum and Silicon Microgravity have embarked on a pioneering partnership to expedite the discovery of critical minerals essential for the global energy transition by developing a drone-based sensor system that integrates diamond quantum magnetometers and innovative gravity sensors. Named the Quantum Accelerated Mining Exploration (QUAMINEX) project, this collaboration aims to significantly enhance the efficiency of locating and analyzing underground mineral deposits, thereby reducing the time and capital involved in mining explorations. Leveraging the strengths of magnetics and gravimetry, the system promises to deliver 3D geological readouts with at least 30% greater resolution than current industry standards, potentially transforming the way mineral deposits are discovered. With funding support from the governments of Canada and the UK, the 18-month project not only marks the first deployment of diamond-based quantum magnetometers on drones but also underscores the importance of international partnerships and innovation in advancing the mining industry.

Infleqtion Partners with Wolfram to Further Advance Quantum Education

Infleqtion, World View team to target quantum sensing's stratospheric ...

Wolfram and Infleqtion have announced a partnership to revolutionize quantum education by making it more accessible and interactive. This collaboration combines Wolfram’s computational expertise with Infleqtion’s advanced quantum matter service, Oqtant, to provide educational materials and hands-on experience with real quantum hardware. By integrating the Wolfram Language and Oqtant platform, this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical experimentation in quantum mechanics. The partnership calls on academic institutions to join, offering them an opportunity to enhance quantum education with interactive tools and real-world applications. This effort aims to prepare students for future quantum research and technology careers by providing a comprehensive understanding of fundamental quantum principles and practical skills in experimental design, data analysis, and problem-solving.

Quantum Industry Canada (QIC) Welcomes Nord Quantique, OZ Optics, and Quantum Valley Ideas Lab to its Growing Consortium

This addition showcases the diverse strengths within the nation’s quantum industry, from developing fault-tolerant quantum computers and leading fiber optics technology to advancing quantum technology research and commercialization. With nearly 50 organizations under its umbrella, QIC is critical in fostering collaboration and innovation, driving Canada’s ambition to become a global leader in quantum technology. This move aligns with the National Research Council of Canada’s projection of the quantum sector contributing significantly to the economy by 2045, emphasizing the strategic importance and potential of Canada’s quantum technology landscape.

IDTechEx Reports on Quantum Technology: The Double-edged Sword in the Fight Against Cybercrime

IDTechEx logo

As the global challenge of securing communications escalates with hacking becoming a lucrative enterprise, quantum technology emerges as both a new threat and a solution to data security. According to a new press release from IDTechEx, the growing capabilities of quantum computing pose a significant risk to current encryption methods, potentially enabling the rapid factorization of large prime numbers used in various secure communications. This looming threat, informally termed ‘Q-Day,’ has spurred investment in ‘quantum ready’ cybersecurity solutions, including post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and quantum hardware like quantum random number generators (QRNG) and quantum key distribution systems. QRNGs, leveraging the inherent randomness of quantum physics, are seen as a critical advancement in generating secure keys, with commercial applications already underway, including their integration into consumer technology. Despite these innovations, achieving long-term data security in the face of quantum computing advances will require more sophisticated solutions, underscoring the dual role of quantum technology as both a challenge and a cornerstone of future cybersecurity efforts.

Quantum Computing Inc. Launches Quantum Optimization Machine

QCi Releases Video of Landmark Moment in Quantum Computing | Quantum ...

Quantum Computing, Inc. (QCi) has unveiled the Dirac-3 Entropy Quantum Computer (EQC), a groundbreaking quantum optimization platform that leverages nanophotonic technology to solve complex problems with unprecedented efficiency. Unlike traditional quantum computers that use qubits, the Dirac system utilizes quantum digits (qdits) with 200 discrete modes, significantly enhancing its capability to address a broader spectrum of optimization challenges. This fully commercialized, rack-mountable system, which operates at ambient temperature and requires no special infrastructure, is positioned as a game-changer for the healthcare and energy management industries. With a recent contract from NASA for optimizing spectral analysis of LiDAR and a growing market interest underscored by 19 federal contracts in 2023 and expectations to double in 2024, the Dirac system, priced at $300,000, including installation and warranty, embodies QCi’s commitment to making advanced quantum optimization solutions widely accessible and affordable.
