Nik Nurse Fired by Raptors, Eyed for Rockets Job

The Toronto Raptors have fired Nik Nurse as their head coach. After a 41-41 season that saw Toronto Raptors miss the playoffs, although they were featured in the Play-In Tournament, where they lost to the Chicago Bulls despite leading by 19 in the game at a point.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news via Twitter on Friday.

Nurse rose to power in 2018 after the Raptors moved on from head coach Dwayne Casey. He would go on to lead the team to the NBA Finals and a championship in 2019, after acquiring Kawhi Leonard, who won the NBA Finals MVP.

He was also named the NBA’s Coach of the Year in 2020 with a record of 53-19. After the firing of Stephen Silas, Nurse is reported to be on the shortlist for coaching candidates for that team. Sam Cassell has also been named as a person of interest.
