NFL Draft Prospects to Watch in College Football 13

Date:

While the 2023 NFL Draft is still far off in the distance, players who will be drafted early are on the field now. Each week presents unique matchups for draft prospects and this week is no different. Here are NFL Draft prospects to watch in college football week 13.

1. J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan Wolverines

Michigan is undefeated this season. Most of that is because of the defense and running game, but starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy has made some nice throws this season. He has passed for 2,335 yards, 18 touchdowns and four interceptions on 73.8 percent completion. McCarthy has added 164 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

In week 13, McCarthy will be going up against a good Ohio State defense that allows fewer than 10 points per game. He hasn’t had to make too many high-leverage throws this season. McCarthy needs to have a good game for his draft stock against good competition and this may be his last chance to do so if the Wolverines don’t win and then he sits out of the bowl game. Currently, he is a projected first-round pick.

2. Blake Corum, RB, Michigan Wolverines

While it is unusual to include two players from the same team on this list, Michigan hasn’t played too many tough opponents this season. Corum is returning from injury this season, but has really helped the Michigan offense run well. He has 888 rushing yards, 72 receiving yards and 20 total touchdowns on the season.

As mentioned, Ohio State’s defense is good. Last season, Donovan Edwards was able to reel off some long runs, which ultimately put the nail in the coffin for Ohio State. If Corum can get some big runs in, Michigan can win the game. He has good quickness and runs hard. Currently, he is expected to be a mid-round pick.

3. Denzel Burke, CB, Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State is undefeated and have done it behind a great defense. The defense has allowed more than seven points in just six games. A lot of that is thanks to the emergence of Denzel Burke, who has had a fantastic season when healthy. He has 14 total tackles, one interception and nine passes defended on the season.

The Buckeyes will have to limit what Michigan can do offensively. Last season, Ohio State gave up too many big plays. Burke can help shut down the big plays through the air and make Michigan one-dimensional. He has shown the ability to match up with good receivers and limit them. Currently, Burke has played well enough to be a first or second-round draft pick.

4. Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State has just two losses on the season, which came to Ohio State and Michigan. Their offense has had struggles, but their defense has kept them competitive. They have a great edge rusher in Chop Robinson. This season, Robinson has 14 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and four sacks.

The Nittany Lions shouldn’t have too tough of a time defeating Michigan State in week 13. This game will allow fans to key in on Robinson before the end of the season. He has played well this season and if that continues through this game and potentially a bowl game, Robinson could be drafted even earlier in the first round than projected.

LSU has had a good season, with an 8-3 record. Even though they haven’t been able to win the SEC West for the second season in a row, that is not the fault of the offense. Jayden Daniels has been one of, if not the best player in the country. He has passed for 3,577 yards, 36 touchdowns and four interceptions on 71.8 percent completion. Daniels also has rushed for 1,014 yards and 10 touchdowns.

In the final week of the regular season, LSU plays Texas A&M. While they are going through a coaching change, they have several talented players on the defensive side of the ball. Daniels can have one last great performance to stick in the minds of Heisman voters and draft analysts alike. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick.
