NFL Draft Prospects in the 2024 Sugar Bowl

Date:

The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2024 Sugar Bowl.

Texas Longhorns Draft Prospects

Adonai Mitchell, WR

Mitchell started his career at Georgia, where he spent two seasons. He transferred to Texas for the 2023 season. In his career, he has 89 catches for 1,373 yards and 17 touchdowns. The 2023 season has been his best yet with 51 catches for 813 yards and 10 touchdowns.

At 6-foot-4 and 196 pounds, Mitchell has good size for an NFL receiver. He can continue adding to his frame at the next level to help him be even more of a size mismatch. Mitchell can make plays downfield making him a valuable asset.

Projected Draft Range: 1st Round Pick-2nd Round Pick

Xavier Worthy, WR

Worthy signed with Texas in 2021 and was immediately productive. He has had a great career over his three seasons as a Longhorn. In his career, he has 195 catches for 2,710 yards and 26 touchdowns. This season, he has 73 catches for 969 yards and five touchdowns.

He is 6-foot-1 and 172 pounds, Worthy has decent height, but is undersized and will need to add more weight. Currently, he may be a good fit in the slot due to his size. Worthy has unique speed that helps him separate and make plays downfield.

Projected Draft Range: 1st Round Pick-2nd Round Pick

*RB Jonathan Brooks is injured and will miss this game. He is a projected mid-round pick.

Other Draft Prospects: TE Ja’Tavion Sanders (2nd-3rd), DL T’Vondre Sweat (2nd-3rd), QB Quinn Ewers (2nd-3rd), DL Byron Murphy (3rd-5th), OT Christian Jones (4th-6th), LB Jaylan Ford (4th-6th), CB Jahdae Barron (5th-7th), DL Alfred Collins (6th-UFA), EDGE Barren Sorrell (6th-UFA), DL Vernon Broughton (UFA), WR Jordan Whittington (UFA), LB David Gbenda (UFA), P Ryan Sanborn (UFA)

Washington Huskies Draft Prospects

Rome Odunze, WR

Odunze joined Washington in 2020 and has steadily improved over his Washington career. In his time as a Husky, Odunze has 203 receptions for 3,060 yards and 24 touchdowns. This season, he has caught 81 passes for 1,428 yards and 13 touchdowns.

At 6-foot-3 and 216 pounds, Odunze has good height and strength for the position. He uses his size to win against defensive backs and that should continue at the next level. Odunze is a red zone threat and also has solid speed for the position.

Projected Draft Range: 1st Round Pick

Michael Penix Jr., QB

Penix started his college career out at Indiana before transferring to Washington prior to the 2022 season. He has passed for 13,056 yards, 93 touchdowns and 32 interceptions on 63.3 percent completion. This season, he has 4,218 passing yards, 33 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 65.9 percent completion.

He is 6-foot-3 and 218 pounds, which is nice size for an NFL quarterback. Penix has good arm strength and has excelled at pushing the ball downfield. There are some inconsistencies in his accuracy, but he has improved in that area over his career.

Projected Draft Range: 1st Round Pick-2nd Round Pick

Other Draft Prospects: EDGE Bralen Trice (1st-2nd), OT Troy Fautanu (1st-2nd), WR Ja’Lynn Polk (2nd-3rd), EDGE Zion Tupuola-Fetui (4th-6th), WR Jalen McMillan (4th-6th), RB Dillon Johnson (5th-7th), OT Roger Rosengarten (6th-UFA), CB Jabbar Muhammad (6th-UFA), DL Tuli Letuligasenoa (6th-UFA), TE Devin Culp (UFA), LB Edefuan Ulofoshio (UFA)
