The German multinational automotive powerhouse, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, has filed five trademark applications for NFT and metaverse-related plans, making Mercedes Benz the latest company to step into the metaverse.

According to the tweet shared by trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis, the company has filed applications for Mercedes Benz, Mercedes, S-Class, G-Class, and Maybach. Such a move by the company aims to establish trademark protection for any future NFT collections, NFT marketplaces, or cryptocurrency trading.

Significantly, one of the trademark filings, “Maybach,”asserted that the plan is destined for “crypto collectibles” that feature digital or physical animal furs, carpets, blankets, rugs, and mats. Such NFTs are intended “for use in online virtual worlds” with regard to metaverse platforms.

Similarly, the “S-Class” model claimed that the filing is directed “towards audio recordings, video recordings, image files, music, and multimedia files containing artwork, text, audio, images, or video featuring collectible items authenticated by NFTs.”

Earlier, the platform attempted to implement the technology of blockchain to ensure consistent and secure documentation of contracts.

Notably, it’s not the first time a company has filed a trademark application to adopt the metaverse. Daimler South East Asia, a Mercedes subsidiary, had implemented plans to develop a data-sharing network using blockchain technology.

Similarly, companies like JPMorgan, Visa, and Western Union have also filed trademark applications with the intention to incorporate NFT and the metaverse into their businesses.
