LCO Split 2 2023: Bliss, Chiefs find perpetual success into playoffs

Date:

Our teams are ready to hit the Summoners Rift, fighting for a top-two seed to compete in the PCS playoffs–their chance at Worlds in South Korea. With the journey to playoffs underway, which teams will succeed?

  • Bliss maintain unwavering control against Dire Wolves
  • Mammoth relegated to lower bracket by The Chiefs
  • First round of the lower bracket Tuesday, July 18th @ 6pm

The LCO Split 2 playoffs kicked off last night in a best of three format, with the top of the leaderboard in Bliss facing off against the veteran org in the Dire Wolves. While the Dire Wolves secured first blood on the Brisbane botlane, Team Bliss were unwavering in their control of the map, constantly extending into the Wolfpack’s jungle which allowed them an eventual Baron. Once the base was broken, it was only a matter of time before the rest came crumbling down thanks to the carefully allocated gold to Daystar’s Leblanc and Leemas’ Xayah.

Game two followed a similar rhythm–while the teams traded ADCs, Whynot’s level three gank to his botlane gave them the upperhand to fight around objectives such as Shelly and the dragon. Daystar’s presence on Tristana was the other integral half to the double-marksman comp as he marked a large portion of the damage onto the Wolfpack next to the first Chemtech drake. Another Baron push enabled them to another flawless series.

The other series of the evening was played out by The Chiefs and Mammoth–both teams looking incredibly competitive coming into the playoffs. After their loss against Bliss last week, The Chiefs returned with a vengeance, dominating the match for the first ten minutes before Mammoth’s Souli brought the score to 1-7.

Dajeung managed to salvage a couple of kills against all odds while being tower dove in an attempt to bring them back on even ground, but Kisee on Neeko was a force to be reckoned with. A three man Neeko flash-ult, the baron and game was secured.

The momentum carried through to the second game of the series and while Mammoth put up a fight, the Chiefs dominated the match, relegating Mammoth to the first round of the lower bracket alongside the Dire Wolves.

LCO Split 2 2023 Schedule & Results

There have been some major changes to the format of the LCO ahead of Split 2 this June. The round-robin stage will be played in best-of-twos as opposed to the former two separate best-of-one matches.

Points will be allocated depending on the results, with three awarded for a victorious flawless series, and one point to each team for a 1-1 outcome. Side selections will be submitted from both teams prior to the beginning of a series.

By the end of the round-robin, the top six teams will move into the next stage.

Rather than seeding into groups, the LCO has opted in favour of a double elimination playoffs bracket to give all teams a fighting chance. All series in the playoffs are played out in a Bo3 format.

The top two teams in our LCO playoffs will seed respectively for PCS playoffs, where they’ll be competing for a shot at Worlds in South Korea in October.
