In late June 2024, the IQT Nordics conference is set to welcome Dr. Jerry M. Chow, an IBM Fellow and the Director of Quantum Hardware Infrastructure at IBM. Dr. Chow, with his extensive expertise in superconducting qubit quantum computing, is an influential figure in the quantum technology arena, and his involvement in shaping IBM’s quantum hardware systems roadmap makes him a highly anticipated speaker at the conference.

Notable achievements mark Dr. Chow’s academic journey. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a BA in Physics and an MS in Applied Mathematics in 2005. He then completed his Ph.D. in Physics from Yale University in 2010, where he was awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. His doctoral work, conducted in Professor Rob Schoelkopf’s group, focused on implementing the first quantum processor with superconducting qubits, a significant milestone in the field of quantum computing.

Joining IBM as a Research Staff Member in 2010, Dr. Chow has since been a key player in developing and implementing IBM’s quantum computing technology. His work has been critical in advancing the field, particularly in the realm of superconducting qubits, which are fundamental to IBM’s approach to quantum computing.

In 2012, Dr. Chow was recognized in the Forbes 30 under 30 Technology list, acknowledging his contributions to technology and quantum computing. He co-led the IBM Quantum Experience project in 2016, notably making a real quantum processor accessible to the public via the Cloud. This initiative marked a significant step in democratizing access to quantum computing resources and has fostered a global quantum computing community.

In 2021, Dr. Chow was named an APS Fellow in the Division of Quantum Information. This honor was followed by his appointment to the 2022 class of IBM Fellows, the highest technical distinction at IBM. These recognitions underscore his leading role and contributions to the field of quantum computing.

At the IQT Nordics conference, Dr. Chow is expected to share insights into the latest developments in quantum hardware and IBM’s strategic direction in quantum computing. His presentation will likely cover advancements in superconducting qubit technology, the challenges of system integration, and the future roadmap for IBM’s quantum hardware systems.

Given his extensive experience and leadership in quantum computing, Dr. Chow’s talk is highly anticipated by attendees, ranging from industry professionals to academic researchers. His expertise and vision are crucial in understanding quantum technology’s current state and future possibilities, particularly in the hardware domain.

IQT Nordics/Helsinki, June 24-26, Aalto University, Dipoli Building, Helsinki
The second annual Nordics conference partners with Bluefors, Business Finland, The Finnish Quantum Institute, and VTT and will focus on real-world quantum technology applications.
