The upcoming IQT The Hague conference is poised to highlight the crucial intersection of innovation, technology, and legal frameworks, featuring Pere Arque-Castells, an accomplished economist with a deep specialization in innovation. Currently at the helm of the Legal and Innovation Policies Stream at the European Patent Office’s (EPO) Observatory on Patents and Technology, Arque-Castells brings to the table a rich blend of academic rigor and practical insight into the dynamics of innovation management and the strategic role of patents in driving technological advancements at the EPO.

Arque-Castells’ academic journey is marked by distinguished roles across several esteemed institutions. As an Assistant Professor in the Innovation Management and Strategy department at the University of Groningen, he delved into the mechanisms through which organizations cultivate and leverage innovation for strategic advantage. His tenure as a Research Associate at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law gave him a nuanced understanding of the legal intricacies underpinning technological innovation and intellectual property. Furthermore, his postdoctoral research at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona enriched his perspective on the socioeconomic factors influencing innovation ecosystems.

With an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Universitat de Barcelona, Arque-Castells’ scholarly work at EPO has extensively explored the economics of innovation, making significant contributions to the field as evidenced by his publications in numerous peer-reviewed journals. His research sheds light on the complex interplay between economic policies, legal frameworks, and innovation outcomes, offering valuable insights into how policy and legislation can be crafted to foster a conducive environment for technological progress.

At the IQT The Hague conference, Arque-Castells is expected to address the pivotal role that legal and innovation policies play in shaping the trajectory of quantum technologies, using his work at EPO as an example. His expertise will provide attendees with a comprehensive overview of the current patent landscape concerning quantum computing and related technologies, highlighting the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. Drawing on his extensive research and experience, he will delve into the implications of patent strategies, intellectual property management, and regulatory considerations for startups, established companies, and policymakers navigating the quantum technology space.

IQT The Hague 2024 is the Netherlands’ fifth global conference and exhibition. The Hague is a Quantum Technology Event focusing on Quantum Networking and Quantum Security. Ten vertical topics encompassing more than 40 panel talks from over 100 speakers will provide attendees with a deep understanding of state-of-the-art developments of the future quantum internet and the current impact of quantum-safe technologies on cybersecurity and quantum computers.

The conference brings together corporate management, entrepreneurs, end users, technology providers, infrastructure partners, researchers, and investors working on current developments. IQT The Hague is organized by 3DR Holdings, IQT Research, QuTech, QIA (Quantum Internet Alliance), and Quantum Delta NL, who will bring leading organizations and professionals together in this important event. The April conference is “in-person” to ensure maximum networking and discussion at the Postillion Hotel & Convention Centre in The Hague.
