Major League Baseball is about to start and teams have prepared their pitching rotations. Here is the Houston Astros 2024 projected pitching rotation.
1. Framber Valdez LHP
Valdez has made the last two All-Star Games and starts the season at the top of the rotation. He had a 12-11 record and a 3.45 ERA in 2023.
2. Cristian Javier RHP
With some injuries, Javier gets bumped up in the rotation to start the season. He went 10-5 with a 4.56 ERA in 2023.
3. Hunter Brown RHP
Brown struggled during his rookie campaign. He’ll be looking to build on the season though, after posting an 11-13 record with a 5.09 ERA.
4. J.P. France RHP
At 28, France impressed in his first season at the MLB level. He went 11-6 with a 3.83 ERA and will look to keep the momentum going in 2024.
5. Ronel Blanco RHP
Blanco started and came out of the bullpen for the Astros in 2023. He’ll be a starter at the beginning of the season, but will likely move to the bullpen when players return from injury. Blanco had a 4.50 ERA in 2023.
Notes: Justin Verlander (RHP) will begin the season on the IL with a shoulder injury. Jose Urquidy (RHP) also will start the season on the IL, but with a forearm muscle strain. Lance McCullers (RHP) had surgery to end his 2023 season and won’t be ready for the start of the season. Luis Garcia (RHP) is still recovering from Tommy John surgery.
