Let’s check some of the highlights of the CIS region.
The CIS Dota 2 region is usually fun to watch, but after Singapore Major, we can all agree that the teams here need to step up their game. Virtus.pro and Gambit (the two representatives at the Major) weren’t able to put much of a fight. Sure, VP was able to secure a few victories, but it seems like Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin and the other players from his team couldn’t keep up with the best teams from Europe and China.
Lower Division
Our Lower Division saw plenty of action as our first week of play kicked off. We take a look at one of the most interesting series.
B8 vs Prosti Esli
Danil “Dendi” Ishutin is one of the most legendary Dota 2 players of all time. Unfortunately, it seems like he just can’t find the right teammates that will allow him to shine. B8 didn’t play that well prior to the Singapore Major, which is why everyone was hoping that Dendi and co. will be able to challenge some of the best teams in the LD.
Unfortunately, the team lost their first series of the week against Prosti Esli. The first game looked even early on, but after several mistakes, PE got the lead in the series. Luckily, B8 managed to bounce back after picking a solid draft that didn’t allow their opponents to win a team fight.
Despite having the momentum on their side, B8 couldn’t win the third game because they’ve picked Anti-Mage. Needless to say, Prosti Esli decided to take full advantage and got a Drow Ranger. Twenty-nine minutes later, Artem “Lorenof” Melnick and his colleagues won the game and their first series.

Upper Division
There were thrills and spills in Week 1 for AS Monaco Gambit. We break down their round-robin series.
Virtus.Pro vs AS Monaco Gambit
The first series of the Upper Division also happens to be the most anticipated match because it features the best two teams in the region. Both of them managed to reach the Singapore Major, which is why it was interesting to see the outcome of this series.
After three clean games, VP was the one that managed to secure the victory. Gambit used IO and Tusk in each game, which is a pretty strong combo, but after losing game two, VP learned how to cope with it.
The final game of the fantastic series was probably the most interesting to watch because we got to see Invoker, Lifestealer, and Timbersaw. These three heroes work pretty well together because they do tons of damage. Despite Gambit’s defensive lineup and IO + Gyro combo, the team couldn’t survive against VP’s pressure.

AS Monaco Gambit vs Team Spirit
The second series in the UD that was fun to watch was between Gambit and Team Spirit. Kiyalbek “dream” Tayirov and his teammates lost the first series in the group against Virtus. Pro, whereas Team Spirit managed to easily go through Natus Vincere.
Even though Gambit had a lot of chances (especially in game one), they failed to show their real prowess. Consequently, the team had to suffer another painful 0-2 loss. Alexander “TORONTOTOKYO” Khertek played phenomenally in both games and had a key role in his team’s success.
The first game of the series was more intense because Gambit had a deadly team-fight combo. Unfortunately, it was not enough to bring down the mighty Storm Spirit.
After winning the first game, Team Spirit looked fired up for the second one. They had a great laning stage and needed around 33 minutes to deliver their knock-out punch.
