Cubs Acquire Jeimer Candelario via Trade

Date:

The Chicago Cubs have re-acquired an old prospect ahead of Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline. Third baseman Jeimer Candelario has been traded from the Nationals to the Cubs for a package that has not yet been made public at time of writing.

ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reported the news via Twitter on Monday.

Candelario made his MLB debut for the Cubs in 2016, but spent just six days on the active roster before going back down to Triple-A Iowa. This was the season that the Cubs ended their drought and won the World Series. Although he wasn’t on the playoff roster, he was on the 40-man roster during their win.

This season, he’s played in 99 games, hitting for an average of .258 while collecting 368 true at-bats. He’s knocked in 53 runs and hit 16 home runs, which is well above pace to break his previous home run record of 19.
