College Football Playoff Bracketology September 17

Date:

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology September 17.

CFP Four

1. Texas Longhorns (3-0)

Texas struggled with a solid Wyoming team, but were able to pull away in the fourth quarter. The Longhorns still have one of the better wins of the season with a win at Alabama, although that win looks like it could be less relevant unless the Crimson Tide can play better.

This week: at Baylor Bears (1-2)

2. Florida State Seminoles (3-0)

Florida State narrowly escaped a visit to Boston College with a victory. Their win against LSU looks pretty good after the Tigers walloped Mississippi State on Saturday.

This week: At Clemson Tigers (2-1)

3. Duke Blue Devils (3-0)

The Blue Devils won’t get much credit for winning over Northwestern in week 3. They still have a great win over Clemson from week 1, as the Tigers have won each game since.

This week: at UConn Huskies (0-3)

4. Colorado Buffaloes (3-0)

It took double overtime, but the Buffaloes were able to stay undefeated with a win over Colorado State. They are still ranked so highly because of their win over TCU, who was ranked and hasn’t lost since their week 1 meeting.

This week: at Oregon Ducks (3-0)

First Four Out

5. Missouri Tigers (3-0)

If these rankings were based on the eye-test rather than the actual wins on the resume, Missouri wouldn’t be on the list after struggling with Middle Tennessee in week 2. They do have a big ranked win now over Kansas State, which took a 61-yard walk-off field goal to secure.

This week: vs. Memphis Tigers (3-0)

6. Miami Hurricanes (3-0)

Defeating Bethune-Cookman won’t really help Miami’s ranking, as they drop a spot from last week. They stay undefeated though and their win over a ranked Texas A&M team in week 2 still counts for a lot.

This week: at Temple Owls (2-1)

7.Utah Utes (3-0)

Utah has been without starting quarterback Cam Rising for the first three games of the season. They have defeated Florida, Baylor and now Weber State to get to 3-0. The first two wins listed help them out, especially after Florida defeated Tennessee in week 3.

This week: vs. UCLA Bruins (3-0)

9. Washington State Cougars (3-0)

The Cougars have wins over Colorado State, a ranked Wisconsin team and now Northern Colorado. Their ranked win over Wisconsin is what has them ranked so early on in the season.

This week: vs. Oregon State Beavers (3-0)

Next Four Out

9. BYU Cougars (3-0)

Things started out rough for BYU, but they were able to rebound and beat Arkansas on the road, 38-31. It was an impressive road win over an SEC team. The win is the only major thing BYU has on their resume, but it is good enough to get them ranked early in the season.

This week: at Kansas Jayhawks (3-0)

10. Ole Miss Rebels (3-0)

Ole Miss took care of business against Georgia Tech in week 3. Their win over a ranked Tulane team is their best of the season so far, but things get tougher starting this week.

This week: at Alabama Crimson Tide (2-1)

11. Oregon Ducks (3-0)

While a big win over Hawaii looks cool, the win over Texas Tech on the road is still why the Ducks are ranked so highly.

This week: vs. Colorado Buffaloes (3-0)

12. Fresno State Bulldogs (3-0)

Early in the season some big wins can go a long way for group of five teams. Fresno State has taken advantage by beating Purdue and Arizona State on the road. They will likely fall out of the rankings as other get big wins, but for now the Bulldogs take the last spot due to their nonconference wins.

This week: vs. Kent State Golden Flashes (1-2)
