College Football Playoff Bracketology October 2

Date:

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology October 2.

CFP Four

1. Texas Longhorns (5-0)

Texas got a ranked win over an undefeated Kansas team this weekend to stay unbeaten themselves. Their win over Alabama continues to look more impressive every week as well. They have a chance to retain the top spot if they can defeat a ranked Oklahoma team in week 6.

This week: vs. Oklahoma Sooners (5-0) (Game in Dallas, TX)

2. Florida State Seminoles (4-0)

Florida State was off this weekend. Their wins over LSU and Clemson took some damage, as both teams have now lost two games. They still have a good case to be ranked highly.

This week: vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (2-3)

3. Ohio State Buckeyes (4-0)

Ohio State was off for week 5, which was needed after a physical game against Notre Dame. With the Fighting Irish defeating Duke, it makes the win look better for the Buckeyes.

This week: vs. Maryland Terrapins (5-0)

4. Washington State Cougars (4-0)

The Cougars also had a bye week. They have defeated both Wisconsin and Oregon Sate this season. Their win over the Beavers looks more impressive after Oregon State defeated Utah on Friday.

This week: at UCLA Bruins (3-1)

First Four Out

5. Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0)

A slow start mildly hurt Penn State, but they recovered to beat Northwestern by a wide margin. They have some solid wins over Illinois, Iowa and West Virginia, but still haven’t been tested by elite teams.

This week: BYE

6. Oregon Ducks (5-0)

Defeating Stanford keeps the Ducks undefeated, but doesn’t help their CFP case much. Their wins over Texas Tech and Colorado look a little worse with the teams losing over the last few weeks. The Ducks still look like a very tough team.

This week: BYE

7. Missouri Tigers (5-0)

Missouri was able to defeat Vanderbilt this week to stay undefeated. The two weeks before this, they beat a ranked Kansas State team and a Memphis team that just notched a big win over Boise State.

This week: vs. LSU Tigers (3-2)

8. Washington Huskies (5-0)

If these rankings were solely based on the eye test, Washington might be in the top spot. They defeated Arizona this week, which adds another decent win to their resume. They also have defeated Boise State this season.

This week: BYE

Next Four Out

9. Miami Hurricanes (4-0)

Miami was off this week. Their case to be in these rankings is largely bolstered by their win over Texas A&M. The Aggies haven’t lost since that game, which makes Miami look better.

This week: vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2-3)

10. Kentucky Wildcats (5-0)

Kentucky was undefeated, but didn’t have any impressive wins heading into week 5. They beat a ranked Florida team easily to move their way into the rankings.

This week: at Georgia Bulldogs (5-0)

11. Louisville Cardinals (5-0)

The Cardinals got a solid win on the road over NC State. They are undefeated with four power five teams, but still have plenty left to prove.

This week: vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-1)

12. Fresno State Bulldogs (5-0)

Fresno State defeated Nevada this week to move to 5-0. They have two road power five wins and look like they could be representing the group of five in a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.

This week: at Wyoming Cowboys (4-1)
