University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams will not play in his team’s bowl game. The projected number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft will sit out the Holiday Bowl against the University of Louisville.
PFF’s Ari Meirov reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
After starting the season 6-0, USC, a popular pick to make the College Football Playoff lost five of six, leading to a 7-5 record. They were matched up against Louisville, who finished the season 10-3 under head coach and former U of L quarterback Jeff Brohm.
In 12 games this year, Williams, a junior, had a 68.8 completion percentage for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions. He is likely sitting out this bowl game in preparation for the draft, and in an attempt to not jeopardize his draft stock via injury.
