The college football season is almost over, so it is time to look ahead. Here is the 2023 NFL Mock Draft January 7.
1. Houston Texans- C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State Buckeyes
The Texans need a signal-caller of the future. Stroud has shown good poise and accuracy throughout his college career, but even showed he could play out of structure in the CFP semifinal against Georgia.
2. Chicago Bears- Will Anderson, EDGE, Alabama Crimson Tide
Look for the Bears to trade out to a quarterback-needy team if they pick second. If they do keep the pick, they can get an elite pass rusher in Will Anderson, who also plays good run defense.
3. Seattle Seahawks (Via Den)- Jalen Carter, DL, Georgia Bulldogs
Seattle could also be in the market for a trade with a team who needs a quarterback. At no. 3 they can take Carter, who is very disruptive on the defensive line.
4. Arizona Cardinals- Myles Murphy, EDGE, Clemson Tigers
Chandler Jones was lost in the offseason and now J.J. Watt is retiring following the season. The Cardinals have to address the pass rush and Murphy can get after the quarterback.
5. Indianapolis Colts- Bryce Young, QB, Alabama Crimson Tide
The Colts may have to trade up to get one of their desired quarterbacks. If Young falls to them, they should take him, as he has been clutch throughout his college career and he has solid arm talent. His size could be a reason he falls in the draft.
6. Detroit Lions (via LAR)- Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia Bulldogs
Ringo didn’t play well against Ohio State, but he has had a good college career. The Lions need to improve their defense thoroughly this offseason.
7. Atlanta Falcons- Bryan Bresee, DL, Clemson Tigers
The Falcons have used plenty of draft capital on their offense, but they can improve their defense. Bresee is an athletic defensive tackle who could provide a mismatch on the interior.
8. Las Vegas Raiders- Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida Gators
Richardson is the most naturally-talented quarterback in the class as a gifted athlete with a strong arm. The Raiders will be moving on from Derek Carr and Josh McDaniels did draft Tim Tebow for the Broncos, so he may be enticed by Richardson’s running ability.
9. Carolina Panthers- Will Levis, QB, Kentucky Wildcats
Carolina could go into next season with Sam Darnold, but Levis could be the pick if they want to move on. Levis has a stong arm and can run well, but needs to work on his decision-making.
10. Philadelphia Eagles (Via NO)- Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas Longhorns
Over the last few seasons, the Eagles have really built up their roster across the board. They can improve the running back position by taking Robinson, who can do it all at the position.
11. Tennessee Titans- Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Ohio State Buckeyes
The Titans lost Taylor Lewan for the season and their offensive line has struggled. Johnson moved from guard to tackle this season, where he is a much more natural fit.
12. Houston Texans (via CLE)- Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU Horned Frogs
After getting a franchise quarterback, the Texans need to get him a number-one option. Johnston is big and fast, which creates a mismatch outside.
13. New York Jets- Peter Skoronski, OT, Northwestern Wildcats
The Jets have lost Mekhi Becton to injury, but they still need help on the offensive line. Skoronski was recruited as a center, but played left tackle well for the last few seasons at Northwestern.
14. Washington Commanders- Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State Nittany Lions
There are plenty of needs to address for the Commanders, but at this point, taking Porter Jr., a physical corner, can really help their defense for next season.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers- Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon Ducks
With the Steelers’ offensive line improving, they can address their secondary, which has given up too many big plays this season. Gonzalez really improved at Oregon this season after transferring from Colorado.
16. Green Bay Packers- Brian Branch, S, Alabama Crimson Tide
The Packers have not had great safety play this season. Branch is a good athlete who hits hard.
17. Detroit Lions- Noah Sewell, LB, Oregon Ducks
Detroit has multiple first-round picks and can use both on defense to help their title hopes. Sewell’s brother Penei already plays on the Lions and he has proven to be great against the run.
18. Miami Dolphins- Forfeited
19. Seattle Seahawks- Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech Red Raiders
After getting Carter, the Seahawks can really revamp their defensive line with the addition of Wilson. Wilson is a bigger edge rusher, but also has some athleticism.
20. Jacksonville Jaguars- O’Cyrus Torrence, OG/C, Florida Gators
The Jaguars have Calvin Ridley coming in next season, so they may elect to improve the offensive line instead of giving Trevor Lawrence more weapons.
21. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Jahmyr Gibbs, RB Alabama Crimson Tide
Tracking what some of their free agents do will be important, but the Buccaneers need to run the ball better. Gibbs is a threat as a receiver and runner with great speed.
22. New England Patriots- Jordan Addison, WR, USC Trojans
At some point, the Patriots have to address the receiver position. Addison is quick and runs good routes, which will help the Patriots’ young quarterbacks.
23. New York Giants- Clark Phillips, CB, Utah Utes
The Giants should look into improving their secondary and can do that with the selection of Phillips, who has great ball skills.
24. Baltimore Ravens- Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State Buckeyes
The more time that goes on without the Ravens really investing in wide receivers, the longer their struggles in terms of competing for championships will be. Smith-Njigba is a good slot receiver to pair with Rashod Bateman.
25. Los Angeles Chargers- Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee Volunteers
With the injuries to Keenan Allen and Mike Williams this season, the Chargers may want to get more help at wide receiver. When they are on the field Hyatt can stretch the field and open things up for everyone.
26. Cincinnati Bengals- Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Bengals have had success with Hayden Hurst, but Mayer is a hometown kid who is one of the better all-around tight end prospects in recent memory.
27. Minnesota Vikings- Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois Fighting Illini
Minnesota has not had a great defense this season and can improve in the secondary.
28. Dallas Cowboys- Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina Gamecocks
The Cowboys started the season off well defensively, but injuries have piled up. Smith can help them at corner across from Trevon Diggs.
29. Denver Broncos (via SF)- Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State Seminoles
After trading away Bradley Chubb, the Broncos need to find a pass rusher this offseason.
30. Buffalo Bills- Kayshon Boutte, WR, LSU Tigers
Gabe Davis has been inconsistent this year. Boutte’s stock has dropped this year, but at his best, he could be a steal for the Bills late in the first.
31. Kansas City Chiefs- Isaiah Foskey, EDGE, Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Kansas City’s offense is doing great, but the defense really could limit them. They tried to get a pass rusher at the trade deadline and failed, so they will have to try again this offseason.
32. Philadelphia Eagles- Antonio Johnson, S, Texas A&M Aggies
The Eagles have had some injuries to their safeties. Johnson is big, but athletic, making him a unique chess piece for Philadelphia.
