The 2023 NFL Draft is over, giving a clearer picture of rosters for the 2023 season. With that fantasy football rankings can be released. Here are the 2023 fantasy football running back rankings. (Note: These are best used for standard-scoring leagues and will be updated until the season starts)
1-5
1. Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers
McCaffrey ranked as the second-best running back last season and really turned things on after being traded to the 49ers. Staying on the field is always a concern, but McCaffrey thrives in San Francisco’s system.
2. Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans
Even with the offense not operating efficiently, Henry led all running backs in fantasy points per game. Every year he gets ranked lower, but he just keeps producing.
3. Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts
Taylor did not have the year that was expected in 2022, but is back healthy and the offense should improve if the offensive line can stay on the field as well.
4. Austin Ekeler, Los Angeles Chargers
After requesting a trade, Ekeler is returning to Los Angeles for the time being. He ranked fourth last season and there is no reason to believe he can’t do it again.
5. Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons
Robinson is one of the more complete draft prospects at the running back position over the last few years. He joins a good Falcons’ rushing attack and could actually improve it.

6. Saquon Barkley, New York Giants
Barkley is still negotiating his salary, but is franchise tagged. This ranking is assuming he plays on the tag and he did rank sixth last season.
7. Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns
He ranked fifth last season and Chubb should still be a very productive running back. With Deshaun Watson at quarterback for a full season, it may open things up for Chubb.
8. Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas Raiders
Jacobs surprised many by finishing as the top running back in fantasy last season. It would be hard to replicate that season, but he should still finish in the top 10.
9. Tony Pollard, Dallas Cowboys
In 2022, Pollard took over the Cowboys’ backfield and ranked eighth. He now is the lead back without much competition for touches, so he should finish similarly.
10. Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings
There are trade rumors surrounding Cook right now. Whether he gets traded or not, Cook was the ninth-ranked running back last year and can do the same thing this season.
11-15
11. Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers
Last season, Jones finished 11th, even after losing some of the workload to A.J. Dillon. The Packers will likely be more run-focused in 2022, so Jones still has plenty of fantasy relevance.
12. Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals
Mixon missed a few games in 2022 and still ranked 13th. There were some rumors he would be replaced this offseason, but Mixon is likely going to get plenty of opportunities in a high-powered offense.
13. Breece Hall, New York Jets
Hall tore his ACL in October last season, but he should be ready for week 1. He was averaging 13.7 points per game before the injury and should be able to find his form from last season before the injury.
14. Travis Etienne, Jacksonville Jaguars
After being injured in his rookie season, Etienne ranked 16th last season. With the Jaguars improving, Etienne could see more opportunities in 2023.
15. Kenneth Walker, Seattle Seahawks
Walker had a fantastic rookie season that saw him rank as a top-15 running back. He has talent, but the Seahawks drafted Zach Charbonnet, which will take some carries away from him.
16-20
16. Najee Harris, Pittsburgh Steelers
Harris ranked 12th last season and the Steelers have added to their offensive line, which should help him stay around that spot this season.
17. Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions
The Lions believed in Gibbs enough to take him in the first half of the first round. He will likely be the starter, but will have David Montgomery taking some of the goal line work.
18. JK Dobbins, Baltimore Ravens
Dobbins averaged 9.3 points per game in 2022. The offense will change in 2023, but he should still get plenty of opportunities.
19. Rhamondre Stevenson, New England Patriots
In 2022, Stevenson ranked 14th for running backs. While Damien Harris is in Buffalo, James Robinson is now a Patriot, which could eat into the workload if he is healthy.
20. Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints
Kamara would rank higher, but he is likely facing a six-game suspension. If that decision doesn’t come down before the season, he will move up more than a few spots.
21-25
21. Dameon Pierce, Houston Texans
In 2022, Pierce came out of nowhere to average over 10 fantasy points per game. He now has plenty of fantasy relevance.
22. Cam Akers, Los Angeles Rams
Akers fell in and out of favor last season, but with a more defined role, Akers can be a top 25 running back.
23. James Conner, Arizona Cardinals
Last season, Conner averaged 11.9 points per game, which made him one of the more productive running backs when he played. His productivity may be stunted in 2023, as Kyler Murray likely won’t be back for some of next season from tearing his ACL last season.
24. Miles Sanders, Carolina Panthers
Sanders was a part of a good Eagles’ rushing attack last season. Sanders will join Chuba Hubbard and should have a solid season.
25. D’Andre Swift, Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles acquired Swift from the Lions and can give him plenty of carries to make the rushing attack dynamic with Jalen Hurts.

28. Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
