South Alabama Jaguars (6-6)
South Alabama won six games to qualify for their second straight bowl game. They defeated three bowl-eligible teams: Oklahoma State, Arkansas State and Marshall. One of their six losses was to Central Michigan, who didn’t qualify for a bowl game.
The Jaguars score 30.8 points per game, which ranks 46th in the country. They pass for 264.9 yards (ranked 35th) and rush for 160 yards per game (ranked 62nd).
Carter Bradley was the starting quarterback for the Jaguars this season. He has passed for 2,660 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 67.8 percent completion. Three pass-catchers have over 200 yards on the season. Caullin Lacy led the team in receiving, but is now in the transfer portal. Jamaal Pritchett played well this season with 49 catches for 756 yards and six touchdowns.
La’Damian Webb leads the team with 1,007 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. Kentrel Bullock and Marco Lee Jr. have 380 and 220 rushing yards respectively to help out.
They give up 21.9 points per game, ranking them 35th in the country. The Jaguars allow 116.8 rushing yards (ranked 26th) and 210.1 passing yards per game (ranked 40th). Quentin Wilfawn leads the team with 80 total tackles. He also has the team-high with 5.5 sacks. Jaden Voisin has six passes defended and four interceptions this season.
Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-6)
Eastern Michigan won six games this season to make their third straight bowl game. They did not pick up a win over a team that qualified for a bowl game. The Eagles lost two games to team who didn’t make bowl games: Central Michigan and Western Michigan.
They score 20.3 points per game, ranking them 114th in the country. The Eagles pass for 158.6 yards (ranked 124th) and rush for 115 yards per game (ranked 111th).
Austin Smith has been at quarterback for the Eagles this season, but he is in the transfer portal. Ike Udengwu III is likely to start after only passing for 100 yards this season. Four players have over 200 receiving yards on the season. Tanner Knue and JB Mitchell III have been at the top of the team with 479 and 398 receiving yards respectively.
Two running backs have received most of the work for the Eagles this season. Samson Evans has 635 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Jaylon Jackson has rushed for 574 yards and two touchdowns.
The defense allows 24 points per game, ranking 51st in the country. They give up 177.7 rushing yards (ranked 108th) and 205.2 passing yards per game (ranked 34th). Joe Sparacio and Chase Kline each have over 100 tackles on the season. Mikah Coleman led the team with four sacks, but he is now in the transfer portal so new pass rushers will have to emerge. Daiquan White impressed with 12 passes defended.
Prediction
Eastern Michigan doesn’t have the offensive prowess to keep up with South Alabama in this game. They also have some key players in the transfer portal. The Jaguars should be able to pick up the win.
