The final day of the Worlds 2022 Play-In stage is upon us. After breathtaking group matches, the last 4 teams will fight for the last 2 slots to qualify for the main stage. Days ago, when the Worlds 2022 Play-In groups were first announced, the predictions proved correct. North American third place Evil Geniuses and European third place MAD Lions will battle it out for a spot on the Main Stage. The NA versus EU storyline will once again take place on the League of Legends competitive scene.

Evil Geniuses started their journey in Group A with Fnatic. According to most people, they were their only opponent here. It was believed that if they managed to defeat Fnatic, they would come out of the group on top. But that didn’t happen. Fnatic started the tournament very ready and took the first place in the group. For EG, things got a bit difficult. Especially after their loss to DetonatioN FocusMe.

After the group matches, three teams, LOUD, DFM and Evil Geniuses, were on the same score. A three-way tiebreak was organized and the North American team beat both of their opponents to take second place. 

For MAD Lions, things were much more difficult. It was almost certain that they would be in the top 4, but the presence of DRX and Royal Never Give Up in the group limited the team’s dreams of the top 2 spots too much. After the matches, the expected result emerged. While DRX and RNG were in the top 2, MAD Lions had to play an elimination round for third place. Here Saigon defeated Buffalo 3-1 and became EG’s opponent.

In the tough group, MAD Lions managed to show strong resistance against tough opponents. Besides that, they need to beat EG to fix their disappointment in the LEC Playoffs.

With a young and talented roster, it’s a bit unfortunate that Detonation FocusMe has to beat RNG for a spot in the Worlds 2022 Main Stage. Royal Never Give Up, one of the teams that left their mark on League of Legends history, has had a relatively weaker season in the LPL, but they are always superior to teams outside their region. The reason for this is the high level of competition in their region.

DetonatioN FocusMe’s Play-In journey has actually been a bit weaker than expected. After their performance on the international stage last year, everyone expected them to perform better, but the team came back a bit late. After starting the tournament with 2 losses, they qualified for the elimination round with consecutive wins, where they defeated LOUD and qualified to face RNG.

RNG’s only loss in the groups was to DRX after a tight match. To be honest, this is an acceptable and ordinary loss. There is only one favorite in this series and that is Royal Never Give Up.
