When do the Chargers Start the 2023 Season?

Date:

Football is finally back. The Chargers first preseason is less than a week away and the regular season is only one month away. It’s been six long months without NFL football and the wait is almost over.

First preseason game

The Chargers preseason opener is this Saturday, August 12th at 6pm PT at SoFi Stadium. It is a rematch of last preseason opener almost a year to the day. The Chargers are listed as the away team as the Rams and Chargers share the stadium.

Something to note is in this game last year starting quarterback Justin Herbert didn’t even suit up for the game. Even if Herbert does not play, it will be a great chance to see the young players in the spotlight. Especially first round pick wide receiver Quentin Johnston and seventh round pick quarterback Max Duggan.

First regular season game

The regular season will finally begin September 10th at 1:25pm PT at SoFi stadium. There’s a lot of narratives at stake for this opener between the Chargers and the Dolphins. Dolphins fans have become infamous for declaring that Tua Tagovailoa is better than Justin Herbert. Herbert has matched up against twice in his career with a record of 1-1. However, Herbert has bested Tua in their performances. Tua hasn’t thrown for over 170 passing yards in the two meetings while Herbert threw for 367 yards in the second meeting, doubling Tua.

This is a true make or break season for the Los Angeles Chargers for various reasons. If things go wrong, head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco will likely be fired. If this team plays to its potential, it will be fun to watch how far they go.
