UFC Orlando: Thompson vs Holland

Date:

Welcome to one of the deepest fight night cards of 2023. The UFC superstars will reside in Orlando for the weekend, but will only come out to play on Saturday night of December the 3rd. The UFC veteran Stephen Thompson headlines the card against the former middleweight contender, and now a newly found welterweight contender in Kevin Holland, a striking massacre can be expected. The former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos is set to fight the brawler, Bryan Barberena in the fight night’s co-main event. Tai “Bam Bam” Tuivasa is back in action against the new prospect Sergey Pavlovich. In the prelims, we will have the 13th-ranked Tracy Cortez, going up against the 15th-ranked Amanda Ribas.

Stephen Thompson (2.24) vs (1.63) Kevin Holland

The UFC fans are once again gifted by the MMA Gods as they get a fight that could turn into an instant classic. Kickboxing meets Kung Fu. The Trailblazer Kevin Holland goes up against Wonderboy Stephen Thompson. Both coming off losses from wrestlers and grapplers, this is a very much needed match-up. It promises a good back and forth. Holland carries enough power to put a man to sleep, whilst Thompson is crafty and can send a man to another dimension with his head kicks. Holland opens as the favourite as he has only lost 2 out of his last 5 bouts, compared to Wonderboy’s 3 losses out of his last 5. If styles make matchups, this is the best recipe possible.

Bryan Barberena (4.90) vs (1.17) Rafael Dos Anjos

Bryan Barberena is the co-main and will welcome Rafael Dos Anjos back to the 170 pounds division. Barberena has 4 wins out of his last 5 UFC bouts and will be looking to add another UFC former champion to his list after finishing Robbie Lawler in his last outing. Rafael Dos Anjos opens as the favourite by a good margin and will be expected to win this bout comfortably. RDA has managed only two wins out of his five last fights, to his defence, four of his last five fights included championship rounds against the best in the world. This could either be another brawl enforced by Bryan Barberena, or a one-sided grappling domination from RDA.

Tai Tuivasa (2.65) vs (1.46) Sergey Pavlovich

Tai Tuivasa is back in action after an eventful main event against Ciryl Gane in UFC France. He comes in as a shocking underdog against the hard-hitting Pavlovich. It is expected to be a total brawl in a division that only takes one punch to end a fight. Sergey’s last win came in a controversial bout against Derrick Lewis as the fans and everyone else believed that the ref stopped the fight too soon. Nonetheless, the fight gave Sergey a boost and he will be looking to move up the rankings. This is our pick for the ‘must-watch fight’. Do not blink, because you might just miss it.

Tracy Cortez (1.94) vs (1.84) Amanda Ribas

The flyweight division has been under Valentina Shevchenko’s oppression of domination for the last four years. The division is in need of new top contenders for the title and both women fighting on Saturday night are looking to be exactly that. The odds are very close as both fighters are equally matched on paper. Tracy Cortez will have her black belt jiu-jitsu training partner and fiance Bryan Ortega in her corner, he will be looking to help her counter Amanda Ribas’ striking with good grappling. Ribas is a complete mixed martial artist as she has both TKO and submission finishes in the UFC, this will be her biggest test to date, can she get it done? Ribas is the slight favourite.
