UFC 300: Main Event Matchups & Official Prediction:

Date:

The UFC has announced the entire UFC 300 main card, taking place on April 13, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Except for one. Although President Dana White has not yet confirmed the main event, he assured that the announcement will come soon. The promotion has already confirmed Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje for the ‘BMF’ title as the co-main event for that night. The Women’s Strawweight title will also be on the line in the fight prior to Gaethje vs. Holloway. Below is a short list of two potential matchups for the main event in April, along with the official prediction.

Main Event Possibilities:

Alex Pereira vs. Magomed Ankalaev:

The main event for UFC 300 is obviously going to be a title fight. However, there aren’t many options available for that specific date in April. One of the only divisions that isn’t currently booked for a title fight is light heavyweight. The newly crowned champion of the division, Alex Pereira is looking to make his first title defense. With no news or announcement, this is a fight that has great potential to be the main event. Magomed Ankalaev, who secured a knockout victory over Johnny Walker in early January, would be his opponent. Another reason this matchup makes sense is because there’s another fight on UFC 300 taking place in the light heavyweight division. This one, between Jiri Procházka and Aleksandar Rakić. Procházkka recently fought Pereira for the vacant title, and his matchup against Rakić could have title implications on the line.

Dricus Du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya:

The first main event title fight of 2024 took place just last Saturday. Dricus Du Plessis became the UFC Middleweight champion after defeating Sean Strickland by split decision. He’s also the first South-African born champion in UFC history. The challenger for his first title defense is unfolding to be a former champion of the same division. Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanya. Adesanya held the middleweight title since 2019, and lost it to Sean Strickland in September of 2023. The two middleweights don’t take much of a liking to each other. Given Adesanya’s extended absence, and his superstar status within the organization, it appears that the announcement of this fight is only a matter of time.
