Twala, OSHDP to Bring Digital Efficiency to Housing Sector

Date:

  • Twala, partnered with the OSHDP, a group of mass housing developers in the Philippines, to drive digitalization in the housing sector.
  • They electronically signed an MOU during the OSHDP Affordable Housing Summit 2023, focusing on the adoption of digital technologies to enhance accessibility, efficiency, security, and affordability in housing transactions.
  • The partnership includes raising awareness, providing regulatory policy recommendations, and facilitating digital integration in housing processes.

Just weeks after announcing its partnership with the cooperative sector, Twala, a Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-backed digital signature and digital identity startup has once again entered into a partnership with a private-led entity. This time, for the digitalization of housing.

Twala x OSHDP

The partnership happened between Twala and the Organization of Socialized and Economic Housing Developers of the Philippines (OSHDP), a group of mass housing developers in the country. The partnership was announced during the OSHDP Affordable Housing Summit 2023, which took place at the Henann Regency Resort & Spa in Boracay, Malay, Aklan, from September 1-2, 2023.

In a statement, the startup said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) it signed with OSHDP is aligned with Twala’s mission to unlock billions of pesos tied up in inefficient, paper-based processes.

“The MOU with OSHDP is a significant step towards leveraging technology in the housing sector. By advocating for digital transformation, we aim to make housing transactions more accessible, efficient, secure, and affordable for all Filipinos, especially for OFWs and Filipinos abroad.”

Accordingly, Paolo Giovanni Olivares, OSHDP National President described Twala’s “secure and cost-efficient” services as an essential tool for the digitalization of the housing sector.

The agreement between the two entities is expected to improve accessibility, efficiency, security, and affordability in housing transactions, as the MOU states that it will foster the adoption of digital technologies within the Philippine housing sector.

Moreover, Twala and OSHDP promised to raise awareness of the benefits of digitalization in the housing sector through seminars, workshops, and information campaigns.

Aside from this, the two parties also agreed to leverage their expertise to provide policy recommendations to relevant government agencies and bodies to facilitate the integration of digital technologies into housing procedures, ensuring a more efficient and accessible housing sector for all.

OSHDP Affordable Housing Summit 2023

The OSHDP Affordable Housing Summit is an annual convention that invites policymakers, government leaders, stakeholders, and real estate executives. It already hosted more than 200 real estate developers from all over the country.

The 2023 summit, held under the theme “Raise 1 Up, Raise Juan Up,” emphasized OSHDP’s commitment to supporting the government’s Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program (4PH), which aims to foster the growth of every Filipino by ensuring access to dignified, decent, and affordable housing, according to the organization.

In addition to signing an MOU with OSHDP, Bagro also participated in a panel discussion on “Digital Transformation: Harnessing Technology for a More Efficient Housing Industry.” The panel, which also included Land Registration Systems Inc. President Teddy Sumulong, Lamudi Country Manager Anurag Verma, and MatchHome Founder Kevin Carreon, discussed the role of technology in improving the efficiency of the housing industry.

Recent Twala Partnerships

Recently, the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO), a federation of more than 700 cooperatives in the country, signed a two-year contract with Twala to digitize traditional cooperative processes, focusing on financial inclusion. The collaboration designates NATCCO as the exclusive distributor of Twala’s products to member cooperatives with the aim of modernizing operations.

In April, Twala collaborated with the Supreme Court to help develop rules for electronic notarization. The Supreme Court is seeking input on rules that would allow e-notarization, which led to this collaboration. Twala also suggested the potential use of blockchain to improve the security of document notarization, but no confirmation of its implementation has been provided.

Then in November last year, Twala introduced its in-house developed digital self-sovereign identification (SSI) card. This card enables users to access various applications and websites securely. SSIs empower individuals by granting them control over their personal data, reducing the risk of identity theft and fraud.
