Trezor launched the Trezor Academy in Africa to educate people about Bitcoin, with plans to expand to over ten countries.

The company also supports Bitcoineta, a campaign using a Bitcoin-themed car to raise Bitcoin awareness in West African communities.

In a step to expand Bitcoin knowledge across the African continent, Trezor, a leading hardware cryptocurrency wallet firm, has officially launched the Trezor Academy.

The educational initiative, aimed at spreading awareness and understanding of Bitcoin, was inaugurated at the Africa Bitcoin Conference in Accra, Ghana, on December 4.

The initiative underscores the company’s dedication to fostering a global understanding of cryptocurrency, starting with one of the most dynamically evolving continents.

The Trezor Academy represents a major step in the company’s global effort to promote Bitcoin education. Initially piloted in 2023, the program focuses on organizing in-person meetups led by local Bitcoin experts.

These gatherings serve as platforms for individuals to explore and understand the potential of Bitcoin in their economic context. According to Trezor’s blog, the pilot phase of the Trezor Academy has already made significant strides in countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya.

Looking ahead to 2024, Trezor plans to expand the academy’s reach to over ten new African countries. The goal is to educate hundreds of local educators who can further disseminate knowledge about Bitcoin.

Matej Zak, the CEO of Trezor, emphasized the particular relevance of Bitcoin adoption in Africa, noting its potential benefits in areas such as payment systems, microfinancing, and savings.

In addition to the educational program, the company is also funding Bitcoineta, a unique Bitcoin-themed car campaign aimed at increasing Bitcoin awareness in West Africa, especially in countries like Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.

The name ‘Bitcoineta’ blends ‘Bitcoin’ with ‘camioneta,’ the Spanish word for a minivan, symbolizing the campaign’s mobility and outreach. Initially launched in 2018 by Bitcoin Argentina and Bitcoin Americana, the campaign has now found a new partner for its African journey.

The African Bitcoineta campaign, in collaboration with Ghana’s Bitcoin education initiative Bitcoin Cowries, features a Bitcoineta-branded Land Rover. The vehicle is set to tour the Economic Community of West African States, bringing the message of Bitcoin to rural communities and schools.

The campaign, which began its journey on December 1, aims to reach the grassroots level, educating people about Bitcoin in regions where such knowledge is scarce.

The company announced that updates on the Bitcoineta’s journey would be shared through the official Bitcoineta X account (formerly on Twitter) and documented through various media channels, including video blogs.

The Trezor Academy and its associated initiatives have been made possible through the robust support of the Bitcoin community. Notably, Trezor has dedicated 21 euros from each sale of its limited edition, Bitcoin-only version of the Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet, launched in October 2023, to fund these educational efforts.

As it continues to expand its educational footprint in Africa, the potential for Bitcoin to transform economic landscapes becomes increasingly tangible.

With initiatives like the Trezor Academy and Bitcoineta, the company is not just promoting a product but fostering a deeper understanding and adoption of digital currencies in regions where they could have the most profound impact.

Conclusion

Trezor’s educational initiatives in Africa, encompassing the Trezor Academy and the Bitcoineta campaign, represent more than just a corporate outreach. They signify a pivotal step towards financial empowerment and literacy in a continent ripe with potential for digital currency adoption.

By focusing on education and grassroots awareness, the company is not only expanding its market but also playing a crucial role in shaping the future of financial technology in Africa.

As these programs gain momentum, they hold the promise of unlocking new opportunities and fostering a deeper understanding of Bitcoin and its benefits across diverse African communities.
