Thunderpick Bitcoin Series Dota 2 tournament: 2 BTC Prize Pool
After the success of its first Bitcoin Series event for CS:GO, Thunderpick esports betting site has announced that its second Bitcoin Series tournament will take place in July. Only this time, it will be based on the famous Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game, Dota 2.
A total of 14 top-ranking teams have been invited to participate, all having proved themselves at a host of Dota 2 tournaments from all over the world. They will be joined by two lucky qualifiers from Open Tournaments that will take place at the beginning of the month.
The 16 teams in the event will then compete for a prize pool of 2 Bitcoin (or at least $50,000 guaranteed, whichever is the higher amount at the end of the tournament).
How is the Thunderpick Bitcoin Series Dota 2 Tournament Organised?
The tournament has a number of separate stages and it will begin with two Open Tournaments for teams that have not earned a direct invite into the tournament.
Open Qualifiers
The first Open Qualifier will take place on July 2 and July 3, with the second taking place a week later on July 9 and July 10.
Hosted on the Epulze platform, any Dota 2 team, regardless of its level of experience and ability, can enter the tournament and try and win their way through to the Main Stage of the tournament.
Once the two winners are known from the two Open Qualifiers, they will join the 14 direct entrants in the Main Stage of the tournament, which begins on July 11 and will run right the way through until July 31.
Main Stage & Grand Finale
The initial Main Stage round will be played using a Swiss system involving all 16 teams and after this opening phase is completed, eight teams will progress into the playoffs.
In the second phase of the Main Stage round, the eight qualifiers will then playoff against two more specially invited teams leading up to the Grand Finale of the tournament on July 31 when the two finalists go head to head.
