The History of Symbiont

Date:

Symbiont is the enterprise fintech company creating the next generation of financial markets infrastructure using blockchain technology. Assembly™, Symbiont’s enterprise blockchain platform, creates efficiencies, eliminates manual data replication and reconciliation processes, and enables real-time data sharing with complete privacy. Symbiont Assembly™ is designed specifically for financial institutions and is already being used to issue, track and manage financial instruments, such as data, loans and securities. These live in a digital form as smart contracts, from inception through their entire lifecycle. With offices in New York and Amsterdam, Symbiont is led by a team of experts in capital markets and blockchain technology. Symbiont has dedicated teams in four specific business lines: Alternative Assets, Data Management, Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities, and Mortgages.

The world’s leading financial services firms, including Citi, Nasdaq, Ranieri, Templum and Vanguard, choose to work with Symbiont to solve their toughest business problems. Vanguard leverages Symbiont Assembly™ to manage over $1.3 trillion worth of index funds. A leading asset manager with $5.2 trillion assets under management, Vanguard accesses the most up-to-date and accurate index data from the Center for Research in Security Prices (CRSP).

Symbiont has partnered with Lew Ranieri – the progenitor of the modern mortgage market – to create Merlon; an application that allows compliant and transparent loan servicing in a decentralized environment. Together, Symbiont and Ranieri are converting legacy mortgages into auditable, immutable and verifiable Symbiont Smart SecuritiesⓇ where the complete lifecycle of the loan can be recorded and shared automatically with authorized parties.

In January 2019, Symbiont closed a $20m Series B funding round to continue its growth as the market-leading blockchain platform for the global financial markets. The round was led by Nasdaq Ventures with participation from additional new investors including Citi, Galaxy Digital and Raptor Group.

Symbiont is also actively shaping the regulatory future of blockchain. Symbiont is a founding member of the Association for Digital Asset Markets (ADAM) to establish a code of conduct for emerging digital assets. ADAM will be the first broad-based organization of its kind in the United States to proactively seek comprehensive standards for digital asset market participants. Symbiont earned a spot on Forbes Fintech 50 list in recognition of their unparalleled blockchain solutions in 2018.
