Tezos India and BeFantastic welcomed visitors into the world of digital art through a superlative Web3 experience quite unlike anything India’s burgeoning art scene had seen before.

Tezos India, the leading organization promoting the Tezos blockchain community in India, and BeFantastic, a TechArt platform that originated in Bangalore in 2017, recently joined forces to bring the world of clean NFTs and digital art to the 2022 India Art Fair.

An exclusive booth at India’s largest art exhibition exposed thousands of visitors to exclusive digital art NFTs minted on the Tezos blockchain, known for its energy efficiency.

Appearing on large format screens, the pieces attracted everyone from budding artists looking to make a name for themselves in India’s emerging digital arts sector to collectors and the curious public. According to Tezos India’s Poorvi Sachar, the partnership with BeFantastic and the inclusion of emerging Tezos NFT artists as part of the exhibition was merely the next logical step in Tezos India’s aim to onboard new and talented digital artists to the Tezos blockchain.

“We’re focused on activating art sponsorships, curation workshops, and partnering with platforms that enable artists, curators, and collectors to engage and evolve”, said Sachar.

Education through interaction

The activity was accompanied by a range of interactive features where visitors could get closer to the world of NFTs and artists. “A Selfie with Van Gogh NFT” allowed visitors to take a selfie with Van Gogh’s portrait, while visitors could also win original NFT works, including Whale Tales by artists Arnab Chakravarty (USA), Nikita Teresa Sarkar (India), Padmanabhan J (India), Sayak Shome (India) & Uma Khardekar (India), an art project that uses AI-generated imagery to interactively present stories about the role whales play in mitigating climate change.

Likewise, on the theme of climate change, the interactive online experience entitled Earthling Meditations by artists A. Morgan McKendry (USA), Edward Hutchins (Singapore), and Liactuallee (India), acted as a tool to meditate upon and collectively explore complex feelings around climate change. It was based on contemplative practices centered around nature, mindfulness, and community to spur climate action.

The projects were also accompanied by dialogs entitled Neural Networking and NFTease, which talked about how Artificial Intelligence and blockchains impact arts and culture.

Tezos India President Om Malviya, with Aparajita Jain, Director of Nature Morte, Founder of Terrain.art; Raghava KK (Artist) and Vasundhara Das, Actor, Musician & Radbot Creator, took part in NFTease – a panel that addressed some of the burning questions about the rise of NFTs and how the growing sector interacts with traditional art economies and peoples’ everyday lives.

A cultural phenomenon

Sachar said that the significant interest the artists and artworks have received off the back of the event are rooted in India’s enduring appreciation for arts and culture.

“Since time immemorial, the Indian people have depicted stories of their cultures in the form of artistic representation. It is deep-rooted in Indian society”, she said.

“In this new era, digital art is another way to express and share perspective with society with the added benefit of bringing new ways to interact.”
