The project dates back to 2016. The bank embarked on a large-scale project to move away from its legacy systems for deposits to a new platform that would be “modern, agile, and open”, the vendor says.

Commerce Bank has been operating for over 150 years, using a “super community bank” model that “combines the best of small with the best of big”.

It has a network of around 300 outlets across Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Colorado, and is the 62nd largest commercial bank in the US (according to Federal Reserve Bank data as of 31 March 2021).

David Roller, chief information officer (CIO) at Commerce Bank, says the bank is “focused on staying at the forefront of technology”.

“We recognise that a modern core banking platform is an accelerator for innovation and digital customer experiences. The Temenos platform will enable Commerce to deliver innovative solutions for our customers today and well into the future,” he adds.

Max Chuard, CEO of Temenos, notes that “legacy vendors aren’t able to provide the cloud-agnostic, composable banking services” that Temenos does.

The vendor supplies the country-specific version of its core banking system, Temenos Transact, to incumbent as well as challenger banks in the US. Among its neobank clients are Varo Bank and Grasshopper Bank.

Last year, Green Dot chose Temenos to power its direct digital bank and banking platform services (Banking-as-a-Service).

New president and chief revenue officer

Erich Gerber, Temenos

In other news, Temenos has appointed Erich Gerber as president and chief revenue officer. He begins his tenure on 1 March 2022.

Gerber will be responsible for the company’s expansion into new market segments and territories, Temenos says. He will also “focus on generating new revenue streams through partnerships and increasing the company’s presence in large tier 1 / 2 banks”.

He comes with 30+ years of experience in leading sales organisations for large technology companies in enterprise software and cloud services.

He spent the last 13 years at enterprise data and middleware specialist Tibco Software, most recently as senior vice president for Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific and Japan.

Prior to Tibco, Gerber worked at BEA Systems, IXOS, and BMC Software.
