Floki Inu running large outdoor advertising campaign in Dublin

So something very unusual caught my eye out in Dublin this evening. Floki Inu, a memecoin, is running a massive outdoor advertising campaign. This tweet announces the details and some photos showing the extent of the two week campaign: 150 buses, 14 billboards, 12 rail digital displays, and 50 rail 6-sheets displays in Dublin! I counted, in the twenty or so minutes I was outside this evening grabbing a chipper, at least 20 buses and a railbridge which had the ad running in circulation. What also caught my eye looking at the difference between the ads they showed on their

Buy Irish-made bitcoin and ethereum cufflinks

So we’re always on the lookout for interesting local stories, but occasionally we get something really cool that comes our way, and this one will be ideal for any crypto lover as a gift, or anyone looking for a cool crypto related corporate gift. Based on the main street in Dalkey in South County Dublin, an area I know well from growing up, Birthday Cufflinks Ireland was founded 10 years ago, specializing in making a handmade range of jewellery using old Irish coins, which have been gifted to US presidents Clinton, Obama and Biden. So for instance you could get

Stripe reopening blockchain unit

As reported in the Irish Times, Irish global payments company Stripe has reopened it’s blockchain unit and is looking to hire blockchain engineers (albeit in the US team) with a view to possibly re-integrating cryptocurrencies into it’s payment processing system. The company famously was one of the first to allow bitcoin payments back in 2013, but discontinued support in 2015 and ceased development on cryptocurrency projects in 2018. Given the recent increase in value of bitcoin, with it hitting a new all time high, it’ll be interesting to see if this translates to them opening positions in Ireland. But either

Binance looking to set up HQ in Ireland

As recently reported in Reuters, it’s looking like Ireland is part of Binance’s expansion plans. As one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges by volume, their planned entry is a big boost for the local crypto scene. Aside a range of smaller crypto and blockchain companies, there has been a steady increase in the country of blockchain firms setting up here. These include ethereum developer Consensys, a team working in Facebook’s offices on their upcoming cryptocurrency, as well as other major cryptocurrency exchanges including Coinbase, Crypto.com and Kraken. There will likely be a number of job postings as they get

Chai-Yo Restaurant now accepting bitcoin payments for gift vouchers

We’re always happy to hear from local businesses getting into crypto, and the team at Chai-Yo Restaurant on Dublin’s Baggot Street has recently got in touch. The restaurant is well known for its Teppanyaki meals, as well as a tasty range of asian and japanese cuisine. I’ve eaten myself there a couple of times over the year, and it’s great craic with a lovely environment, great food and drink, and normally the guitar will get whipped out at some stage by the owners to serenade customers. We had a chat with a member of the team to ask them

Techstars to host Blockchain Incubator in Dublin in 2022

As reported in The Irish Times, Techstars will be launching a blockchain focused incubator in Dublin from March 2022. The program aims to bring on ten companies per year focused on blockchain or tokenization and put them through an intensive mentoring program to help bring their products or services to market. The incubator had originally been planned for London, but for various reasons Dublin was chosen instead, which is a great boost to the local crypto ecosystem. The announcement quotes Techstars CEO, Maëlle Gavet as saying “The strong growth of the Irish startup ecosystem in recent years alongside the long-standing

Documentarian seeks Irish-based Crypto Miners for film

We’re always happy to cover local news and events here on BitcoinsInIreland, and given that over half our traffic is from the Emerald Isle, maybe you can help us out on this one. We’ve recently were contacted by John from JBDVideo, a documentary maker based in Wicklow. He’d contacted us for a chat about our mining rig, but as this has been retired and is pretty much a glorified paperweight these days, if you’ve got some crypto miner running he’d like to have a chat with you. So if you’ve got a fancy GPU setup, or a rack of ASICs

Core Bullion Traders now accepting crypto for gold

It’s still rare enough that you hear about crypto on the radio, but while listening to Radio Nova this morning I heard an ad from established gold traders Core Bullion Traders. Based in Frances Street, Dublin 8, they have been around for quite some time, but what caught my attention was that they were making a push now into the crypto space. They offer a wide variety of physical gold, ranging from 1 gram pieces, all the way up to kilogram bars of gold, which when paid for are available for collection. They have partnered with a payment gateway which

Bitcoin & Crypto ATM now available in Swords Pavillions Shopping Centre

The rollout of bitcoin and ethereum ATM’s continues. This time, Boinnex have placed a crypto ATM inside Pair Mobile on the ground floor of the Pavillions Shopping Centre, giving people in Swords and North Dublin an easy way to get their hands on crypto. While I didn’t do a test purchase this time, it’s the same model as another one we’ve reviewed in the city centre branch of Pair. This expands the competition between both Boinnex and Bitcove who are both based out of Cork who have set out to build a network of crypto ATM’s across the country.
