Henderson took a non-traditional route to becoming an NBA prospect. After playing in the G-League for one season, he is in the 2023 NBA Draft.

As a five-star prospect out of high school, Henderson had offers from Alabama, Auburn and Florida. The Georgia native decided to go to the G-League and play for their prospect team. He was able to average 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game at the G-League level.

Following one season in the G-League, Henderson declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a top-five pick.

Scoot Henderson Strengths

Henderson can create shots for himself and others. He does a great job of creating space to get his shot off with dribble moves and getting to the basket. When the defense closes in on him, he recognizes and knows when to give it up to a teammate, whether that’s near the basket or at the 3-point line. This ability create allows him to operate the pick and roll effectively.

While he isn’t the biggest point guard, Henderson has great athleticism for the position. He has good speed and quickness. Henderson also has good leaping ability. Henderson will be one of the more athletic point guards in the league as a rookie. He can get out in transition and create separation for himself because of his athleticism.

He currently can score in a few different ways. Henderson is great in transition with the ability to finish, but he also can finish in the half-court. He can get to the rim and convert even when bigger players are challenging him. Henderson also showed a good mid-range shot during his time in the G-League.

Scoot Henderson Weaknesses

Henderson will need to work on his outside shooting to become a more complete offensive threat. He shot 27.5 percent from 3-point range in the G-League. Henderson could improve in both areas, but currently shoots more frequently off the dribble rather than the catch. Improving his shooting will help spread the floor for his team.

He doesn’t have bad size for the position, but Henderson was listed at 6-foot-3 and may be a little shorter than that. His athleticism will make it easier for him to match up with bigger players, but he could also struggle in that area.

On defense, Henderson could be locked in at all times to produce more stats. He doesn’t normally rack up a ton of steals, as he averaged 1.1 steals per game. Showing better commitment to stay focused on and off the ball will help him improve in this area, as he has the athleticism to be a plus-level defender.
