Reddit, a social networking platform, has been brought back online after a “major outage” prevented users on desktop computers and mobile devices from being able to browse the website for about six hours before a resolution was found and deployed.

According to Reddit Status, the site originally reported that it was offline at 7:18 pm UTC and stated that it was attempting to determine the cause of the problem.

Approximately thirty minutes later, at 7:56 pm UTC, it stated that it had identified an internal systems issue and is working to determine a fix. Approximately two hours later, it found a confirmed fix and stated: “We’ve identified a fix which may take some time to implement, so in the meantime, prepare your bananas (or eat them!).”

Reddit provided an update approximately four hours after its first announcement, in which it stated that it had “applied our patch” and was “slowly allowing things to ramp back up.” Reddit later announced that “everything are back in order” following an outage that lasted over six hours.

When users went to the website while it was down, they were presented with blank boxes in some of the spaces where threads and comments would normally be shown. At of the time this article was written, the website pages currently display content, and its functionality appears to be normal.
