Gambling software firm Playtech reportedly offered a £500,000 ($651,279) bounty to private intelligence company Black Cube if its efforts resulted in the cancellation of one of Evolution AB’s gambling licenses.
Court filings as part of the ongoing legal battle in New Jersey revealed further details of the case, including two letters of engagement detailing “success fees,” as NEXT.io first reported.
Playtech paid a total of £675,000 ($879,129) in success fees
A £150,000 ($195,383) reward was up for grabs for any evidence of wrongdoing, £175,000 ($227,948) if a big media company published an article about the allegations, £350,000 ($455,895) if a regulator investigated the matter, and the £500,000 ($651,279) reward for a license cancellation. Playtech paid a total of £675,000 ($879,129) in success fees after Black Cube hit the first three objectives.
In a deposition, the private intelligence firm’s sole director said that tactics to gather evidence, like fake identities, secret recordings, and VPNs, were necessary to find out the truth.
Both Playtech and Black Cube maintain that the evidence they gathered shows that Evolution offered games in sanctioned markets.
