“As one of the largest technology councils in the nation, there is a tremendous opportunity for NVTC to continue to advance its mission, supporting our ever-growing community and embracing emerging and new technologies,” said Brad Schwartz.

Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), the membership and trade association for the technology community in Northern Virginia, today announced the appointment of Brad Schwartz to the position of Acting President and CEO, effective July 1, 2020. The appointment follows Bobbie Kilberg’s planned retirement after nearly 22 years of leading and growing the organization. Following her retirement, Kilberg will assist NVTC as President and CEO Emeritus and Strategic Advisor during the leadership transition period.

Brad Schwartz is the former President and CEO of Blue Canopy, a company specializing in providing Big Data Analytics and cybersecurity services for the federal and national security sectors. Earlier in his career, he served as Group Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for BearingPoint (formerly KPMG Consulting) and Regional Vice President at Oracle Corporation. A technology industry veteran, Schwartz has been honored three times as a GovCon Award winner, twice as a Washingtonian Tech Titan, and received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region (Technical Services). His deep technology background, proven ability to grow people and businesses in the local community, and experience in both the private and public sectors, position him well for this NVTC leadership role.

“I have full confidence in Brad Schwartz’s leadership, experience, and ability to serve as Acting President and CEO,” said Bobbie Kilberg, NVTC President and CEO. “As an active Board and Executive Committee Member, Brad is already well-versed in NVTC’s strategic and operational goals and is very knowledgeable about the community that we serve.”

The NVTC Board continues to support the Search and Advisory Committee, working with executive search firm Korn Ferry, to identify a permanent President and CEO to lead the organization.

In addition, a new NVTC Chairman’s Council has been formed to ensure continuity of leadership during the transition. Members of the Chairman’s Council (post June 30, 2020) include:

  • Richard Montoni, current Chairman of the Board, will become Chair Emeritus
  • Greg Baroni, current Vice Chairman of the Board, will become Chairman of the Board
  • Bobbie Kilberg, current President and CEO, will become President and CEO Emeritus and Strategic Advisor
  • Brad Schwartz, current Board and Executive Committee Member, will become Acting President and CEO
  • Christine Kallivokas, will remain as NVTC Chief Operating Officer

The focus of the Chairman’s Council will be to oversee the successful leadership transitions of the President and CEO and Chairman of the Board roles, as well as to ensure that NVTC is well positioned for continued growth and transformation.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we thank Bobbie for her outstanding leadership and commitment to NVTC and to the broader business community,” said Greg Baroni, Vice Chairman of the NVTC Board. “A tireless and innovative leader, Bobbie has been one of the pioneers in growing the Northern Virginia technology community and has been instrumental in leading the region through many important milestones, including, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic,” he continued.

“As one of the largest technology councils in the nation, there is a tremendous opportunity for NVTC to continue to advance its mission, supporting our ever-growing community and embracing emerging and new technologies,” said Brad Schwartz. “In this interim period, I plan to focus our resources on driving growth and stability, while building a strategy that will take NVTC into its next phase. I’m excited about my new role and look forward to working closely with the Chairman’s Council in the search for NVTC’s permanent successor.”

Richard Montoni, Chairman of the NVTC Board, said, “The COVID-19 environment slowed down our search for NVTC’s new President and CEO. However, we remain committed to finding the next innovative and forward-thinking leader who, like Bobbie, will continue to advance NVTC’s strategy, build stakeholder relationships, advocate for public policy, and position the organization as the regional voice of the technology community well into the future.”
