MML backs Ireland’s biggest household organic waste recycler NWP

Date:

MML Growth Capital Partners Ireland has agreed a roughly £20m investment in Ireland’s largest recycler of household organic waste.

The private equity investor becomes the largest single equity holder in Natural World Products through the deal, which also saw 57 Stars back the company.

NWP manages more than 250,000 tonnes of organics annually across Ireland, producing high-quality, peat-free organic compost with significant benefits for soil health and carbon sequestration.

The business supplies compost to community and voluntary projects as well as hobby gardeners, landscapers and farmers, and Historic Royal Palaces’ Hillsborough Castle and Gardens and Royal Portrush Golf Club.

MML co-head of investments Neil McGowan said, “NWP is an outstanding example of the circular economy in action.

“It helps divert organic waste away from landfill with all the carbon-saving benefits that entails but is also a key ingredient in helping to return organic matter to heavily farmed soils and offering alternatives to peat-based growing media in horticulture.”

MML is tapping its €145m sophomore Ireland fund for the deal. The firm closed its debut fund in the strategy on its €125m hard cap in 2013.
