k0nfig parts ways with Complexity amid reports of Astralis move

Date:

Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke has departed Complexity, the Dallas-based organization has announced, ending his 21-month long tenure with the team.

The 24-year-old’s move away from the ‘Juggernaut’ follows in the wake of a report from Jaxon in September that pointed towards an impending move to Astralis, indicating that k0nfig would not re-sign with Complexity as his contract neared its end.

Astralis‘ interest in k0nfig is not new, and dates back to before they acquired Emil “Magisk” Reif in 2018. In his book The Brain Behind Astralis, head coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen revealed that the team had previously targeted k0nfig to fill the gap left by the departure of Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye, but due to k0nfig‘s attitude at the time and because he showed up late for his interview, he was left out of contention.

k0nfig is no longer a part of Complexity

The Danish powerhouse currently have three members locked in for their squad heading into 2022, including in-game leader Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander who inked a new, three-year deal in July, as well as Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen and Philip “Lucky” Ewald.

However, with Magisk, Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen, Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth, and zonic‘s contracts all set to expire at the end of the year, the team are in a transitional phase as they look to finalize a lineup heading into the new tournament season.

Due to suffering a freak wrist injury during the tournament break, k0nfig has been out of action since mid-August as he recovered from surgery, forcing Complexity to field Niels Christian “NaToSaphiX” Sillassen and later, Marcelo “coldzera” David in his place.

While k0nfig‘s departure opens up the opportunity for coldzera to extend his stay with Complexity beyond his current deal, which is temporary until after the PGL Stockholm Major, the role overlaps on the team between Benjamin “blameF” Bremer, Justin “jks” Savage, and the Brazilian rifler could prove to be an issue, as evidenced by a post-match interview from the Danish captain during the BLAST Premier Fall Groups.

The Dallas-based organization will have time to ponder their next move as they have a suitable roster to play out the remainder of the season, with changes possibly on the way as they head into the new year.

Complexity now have:

Denmark Benjamin “blameF” Bremer
Bulgaria Valentin “poizon” Vasilev
Australia Justin “jks” Savage
Denmark Patrick “es3tag” Hansen
Brazil Marcelo “coldzera” David

Brazil Luis “peacemaker” Tadeu (coach)
