Hawkins played at UConn for two seasons and greatly improved from one season to another. Now he is in the 2023 NBA Draft.

As a four-star recruit out of Maryland, Hawkins signed with UConn. Hawkins averaged 5.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in his freshman season. He helped the Huskies win 23 games, but they lost in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. During the 2022-2023 season, Hawkins put up averages of 16.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He led the Huskies to a National Championship win.

Following the National Championship, Hawkins declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.

Jordan Hawkins Strengths

Hawkins has the potential to be the best shooter in the class. He shot 38.8 percent from deep last season and 33.3 percent in the season before that, showing his growth. Hawkins is a threat to shoot off the catch and dribble. Late in the shot clock, Hawkins can pull up to convert from well behind 3-point range for his team.

His defense has many elements that are intriguing. He is a solid athlete who has the ability to stay in front on the perimeter. Hawkins has the ability to guard point guards or shooting guards. As a team defender, he shows good awareness of when and how to help. He has room to be a solid defender at the NBA level.

He has solid athleticism in a few ways as well. Hawkins has good speed and foot quickness, which help him stay in front defensively, as mentioned. This also helps him offensively in transition, as he can get open layups or spot up from 3-point range.

Jordan Hawkins Weaknesses

Hawkins is not a player that creates for his teammates very much. He averaged just 1.3 assists per game, which left him with a negative assist-to-turnover ratio. Hawkins doesn’t take many bad shots and passes decently, but was unable to set up his teammates for easy baskets.

Creating for himself is also something that Hawkins can struggle with at times. He doesn’t create separation off the bounce as well as other guards. Hawkins can dribble fine, but likely will not lead an offense at the NBA level.

While he does have some nice athletic traits, he isn’t the best jumper. This makes it tough for him finish at the rim all the time. He is a player to stretch the floor and can score, but it may be hard for him to develop into a three-level scorer.

Projected Draft Range: First-Round Pick
