John Cleese, the popular actor from the well-known TV Show Monty Python, is auctioning a digital iPad drawing of the Brooklyn bridge as an NFT and you can buy it for $69.3 million so let’s read more in our latest crypto news.

The British comedy legend John Cleese is the latest celebrity to mint an NFT after he said “the World has gone terminally insane.” He is auctioning off his Brooklyn Bridge iPad drawing as an NFT which is now live on the OpenSea marketplace. There’s a bid of $50K already made by a collector named Cerwyn.

Cleese’s NFT could be poking fun at the recent sale of NFTs which were sold for millions of dollars. The NFT however is now worth $27 and is a Google maps view of the Brooklyn Bridge which is a reference to the American con artist George C. Parker that was known for his attempts of conducting sales of New York landmarks like the Statue of Liberty or the Brooklyn Bridge.

In a tweet posted a day ago, Cleese got in on the joke and announced his own NFT saying:

“though bidding starts at 100.00, you can ‘BUY IT NOW’ for 69,346,250.50!”

The price coincides with Beeple’s art piece “Every day: The FIRST 5000 DAYS” which was an NFT collection that was sold at auction via Christie’s for $69.33 million to Metakovan. Other high-profile NFT creators came out of the woodwork and collected huge sums for their digital art. Similarly, Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland made about $1.65 million in January on his debut art collection through Nifty Gateway.

Because of their fancy nature, the NFTs are a form of verifiable digital scarcity which means that if an artist creates a unique image, it will show its uniqueness on the blockchain’s distributed ledger. The sale of a unique NFT is recorded and the ownership is transferred to the buyer. Cleese’s decision to mint an NFT token comes as news to the crypto fans. In the tweet he posted, he shared a promotional video where he made a few funny remarks about crypto:

“Hello, I’m not gonna tell you my name because all you need to know about me is that I’m a young unknown digital artist or a collective of artists.  You and me we get it. Our parents laugh at non-refundable tokens and cryptic currencies. ‘It can’t go on the wall!’ they say. ‘Is the world ending?!’ No, hardly.”
