Is No Man’s Sky Coming To Apple’s VR/AR Headset? – VRScout

Date:

Beat Games’ Beat Saber may also be heading to the highly-anticipated XR device according to a new tease from the developer.

We’re just a few days away from Apple’s 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference, during which the company is expected to reveal its long-rumored VR/AR headset. Rumors have been circulating over the past few weeks hinting at a potential unveiling and with invitations going out to XR publications for the first time, it’s clear we’ll have a lot to discuss next week.

Until then, several prominent game developers have been stealthily dropping hints at their potential involvement. Last week, Hello Games, the developer behind the immensely-popular open-world sci-fi game No Man’s Sky, hinted at an upcoming reveal when CEO Sean Murray tweeted two apple emojis.

If this is a nod to Apple, it’s possible Murray is teasing an upcoming 2D port for Mac platforms. Hello Games did show off a demo of the gaming running on an M1 Mac during WWDC 2022. That said, No Man’s Sky received official VR support for the game back in 2019, so a VR port for Apple’s mysterious XR device isn’t totally out of the question.

Less than 24 hours after Murray posted his tweets, Jaroslav Beck, co-founder of Beat Games, posted his own mysterious tweet. “June 5th is going to be [popcorn emoji][sunglasses emoji]” he tweeted, which is the exact day of Apple’s 2023 WWDC event. It’s hard not to imagine this as a tease for Beat Saber on the Apple Reality Pro headset. It’s worth noting that Beat Games was purchased by Meta towards the end of 2019.

According to a report by The Information, Apple’s XR headset, currently being referred to as Apple Reality Pro by the media, could feature everything from a 120-degree field-of-view to a waist-mounted battery connected via MagSafe-like power cable.

We’ll just have to wait until next week to find out if the rumors are true. One thing’s for sure: Apple’s VR/AR device will certainly shake up the XR industry.
