In April 2024, the IQT The Hague conference will showcase Hugues de Riedmatten, a distinguished member of the European Quantum Internet Alliance Executive Team and an ICREA Research Professor at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) in Barcelona. With his groundbreaking work in quantum optics and significant contributions to the field of quantum communication, de Riedmatten is a pivotal figure in advancing quantum technologies.

De Riedmatten’s academic journey began with a Masters in Physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in 1999, followed by a PhD in experimental quantum optics from the University of Geneva in 2003. His doctoral work focused on long-distance quantum communication in optical fiber, laying the groundwork for his future research in quantum networks. His postdoctoral tenure at Caltech marked significant advancements in the field, with initial demonstrations of quantum networks utilizing cold atomic ensembles and single photons.

In 2006, de Riedmatten was appointed a senior researcher at the University of Geneva, where he spearheaded the solid-state quantum memory activities. This role further solidified his reputation as a leader in quantum optics, contributing to the development of technologies essential for the quantum internet.

De Riedmatten’s prolific academic output at ICFO includes more than 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals and over 60 presentations at international conferences and invited seminars. His expertise is recognized globally, as evidenced by the prestigious awards he has received, including the Barcelona City Prize in 2017, an ERC Starting Grant, and a Frontier Research grant from the US Moore Foundation. These accolades underscore his influential role in pushing the boundaries of quantum science and technology.

At the IQT The Hague conference, de Riedmatten is expected to delve into the latest developments in quantum communication and the pivotal role of quantum optics in realizing the quantum internet, using his research at ICFO as an example. His presentation will likely cover his innovative research in quantum networks, the challenges and breakthroughs in developing solid-state quantum memories, and the future directions of quantum internet technologies.

IQT The Hague 2024 is the Netherlands’ fifth global conference and exhibition. The Hague is a Quantum Technology Event focusing on Quantum Networking and Quantum Security. Ten vertical topics encompassing more than 40 panel talks from over 100 speakers will provide attendees with a deep understanding of state-of-the-art developments of the future quantum internet and the current impact of quantum-safe technologies on cybersecurity and quantum computers.

The conference brings together corporate management, entrepreneurs, end users, technology providers, infrastructure partners, researchers, and investors working on current developments. IQT The Hague is organized by 3DR Holdings, IQT Research, QuTech, QIA (Quantum Internet Alliance), and Quantum Delta NL, who will bring leading organizations and professionals together in this important event. The April conference is “in-person” to ensure maximum networking and discussion at the Postillion Hotel & Convention Centre in The Hague.
